New? HKS EIDS...Blow Off to Atmosphere?
I was discussing dealer info with a distributor of HKS and i stumbled across this little unit and thought of all those people who enjoy having an aftermarket blow off valve, but we all know the little problems that occur when having one.
Well this little unit corrects this problem (well supposed to): EIDS (Electronic Idling Stabilizer) > From HKS: The HKS EIDS has been developed to buffer dramatic airflow meter signal fluctuations. By buffering these fluctuations the EIDS prevents engine stalling or stumbling associated with sudden imbalances in air/fuel ratio of airflow meter-equipped vehicles that utilize atmosphere venting blow-off valves. For 135usd it looks like a pretty cool unit for people who don't want to/need to get a EMS/Piggyback to tune out the rich issue. I wonder if anyone has tried this thing? Link To Product

i looked on an evo forum and they said its recommended when venting to atmosphere if you dont want to spend the money on a standalone. They said it helps a little, it cures the rough idle and the excessive richness, but they said its not the absolute best.

if you want a sure fire solution, get a vpc. They go for around 400-500 here on the boards. they are a little spendy, but definately worth it. no more worries about the BOV or poping off an i/c pipe and yr car dying for me

for what it's worth, when i first bought my MR2 i did a little experiment where i connected a 2g dsm valve to the recirc pipe that connected pre-turbo and vented the greddy valve that was on the car when i bought it. the theory was that when the greddy valve opened, so did the dsm valve, letting unmetered air back into the system to compensate for what was blown off. it actually worked very well. i could shift at redline, blow off and it would drop back to a rock-solid idle. i never noticed any black soot on the rear bumper either (and i have a white car). i'm not saying it's the best solution, but it worked very well and only cost about $10 to implement.

Yea that would work as well.
Also the point of the EDIS is not to have a piggyback or ems to tune. If you wanted to do more like get larger injectors then i would strongly recommend the SMT7 with its ability to remove the afm and tune as well. I will be reselling this bad boys soon enough (The HKS stuff) |

It really depends on the BOV too i noticed, but you still get those rich points which HAVE in some cases caused a engine to fail aircare locally

Its not disastrous to the engine or anything...some people had idle issues as well but it really depends. I just like to know that my engine is running in top shape and tuned perfectly ![]() |
