Best non standalone to run 550's
Hey guys,
Whats the easiest system out there to run 550s thats not a standalone? I have an afc and Im not sure if should just keep it or upgrade to the afc neo or look at an emanage. Any help would be appreciated thanks Ryan |

stock? It works and it's cheap. Comes with the car
I use the version1 safc with a Aeromitive FPR. |

We have managed to make 332rwhp on a SAFC II with the 550's at a 63% duty cycle. Needless to say it is not easy nor suggested, it is possible.

I have a blitz k3t turbo kit, Id like to realize some of its potention but having standalone in Canada sucks because its so tough to find anyone to tune it. I have yet to meet someone here with standalone that doesnt have issues. Im not saying standalone sucks because it sure doesnt, I just want something simple easy and reversible.

Boost is so very good...

I sue the SAFC with an Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator with pretty good success. You will be battling the stock ECU - particulary with resepct to ignition timing.
I wrote up a tuning guide after doing some videos for the installation of a regulator and how to tune it: http://www.lovehorsepower.com/MR2_Docs/Tuning.htm http://www.lovehorsepower.com |

Avoid the S-AFC if you are a novice tuner...look through the EFI section to find the info as to why!
As far as canada goes where are you?

the emanage has the benefit over the safc in that you can adjust timing with it too.. I udnno in mk2 applications if it all works or not though.. Its great on my subaru ( for what it is) I would prefer standalone, but if you need the stock computer happy and ready to tell the obd2 port hookup "all is well, pass this inspection test now thankyou" then you have to use piggyback and not standalone.

An easy way is the HKS VPC, too...

The HKS VPC is very crude. Your car will not run like stock, and you will still have the timing issues the SAFC brings to the party.
When MRControls gets done with the replacement for the ROM tune, that will probably be the EMS alternative I will recommend to people. |

I would go with a good standalone that can retard timing as well as advance it such a the SMT6 unit which has been used alot for such a job. I have it running my tacoma which has 370cc injectors from 230's for the last 3 years. Its a great little unit.
