EMSPowered Build - Gen3 SW20

We are doing this build to show you guys who keep asking us about builds, costs, and power levels how easy it is to build a very powerful MR2 without breaking the bank. This will all be on a totally stock Gen3 motor, no upgrades of any internal parts at all.

We're starting with a 1991 MR2 Turbo shell (no motor or tranny). Then:

* Installing one of our off the shelf Gen3 setups (CLICK HERE)

* Installing one of our high performance intercooler kits (CLICK HERE)

* Installing one of our new turbo kits, we'll be installing various sizes to show you guys what power our different turbo sizes will make on a fairly stock setup (CLICK HERE)

* Then we're throwing on one of our custom intakes (CLICK HERE)

* And one of the Motoria exhausts that we sell (CLICK HERE)

And for fun we'll add a few of our other goodies:

* Dual engine lid fan shroud (CLICK HERE)

* And a set of front & rear EMSPowered Xtreme braces (CLICK HERE)

* And finally some of our custom digital gauges (CLICK HERE)

This thread is just meant to track the progress of this project and to answer any questions that you guys may have along the way. Feel free to ask any general questions about the project here in this thread. If you have specific questions that require an extended conversation feel free to PM me, email us, or call us.

This project will go on for many months, as we find spare time to work on the vehicle.

The donor car as it arrived today:

Great looking shell! Can't wait to see how it does.

My car will be getting an AEM stand alone, Meth injection, and possibly cams in the coming weeks and i will see what the turbo kits do on a mildly modded 3rd gen.

dang... the shell looks like its had something done to it. brakes, 3 gauge cluster, wheels, tail lights...
just out of curiosity, what do you consider 'not breaking the bank?' I mean that in the nicest way possible.

The shell has stock brakes, the tacky gauges and a-pillar gauge pod will be removed in favor of our digital in-cluster gauges. The wheels are not my taste. Might put some stock 93 wheels on there, or maybe something else (whatever we can find cheap thats looks decent). The taillights came on it, if they were 91 tails, I would leave them that way.

As far as spending, it really depends how far each individual owner wants to go with their particular vehicle, and what makes each owner happy. With this particular car we're basically doing a Gen3 swap and all of the bolt-on mods (all listed in the first post). We'll post various dynos along the way in the coming months to show what difference in power various modifications make. This way our customers get a good feel for what they can expect from various modifications and be able to plan their modifications accordingly.

Sweet. I look forward to seeing the individual power differences for each item. And naturally, the spending is up to the owner. I was asking what You considered breaking the bank? (if you don't mind my asking. You certainly don't have to answer.)
Its kinda like, some people love the car the way it is and are completely happy with it. Good for them. Some people aren't and want more power. Good for them too. It's all up to the individual.

I fit into the "never happy with the car but never have enough money to finish so the project never ends" type of guy.

I am actually doing/did the same build EMS is doing only i am now I am moving on to what i guess could be considered Stage 2 while he is on Stage 1.

Got an AEM and a Meth kit and possibly some cams going into my car in the coming weeks all being powered by a stock 3rd gen with the EMSpowered S200 series turbo (currently the S252 trim).

It's no secret what any of the parts cost. Click the links in the first post next to each item we plan on installing. All of the prices are listed on our website.
