I am wondering what the best 4 cylinder swap is. I myself have done the silvertop 20v.I am happy with the engine but parts and information is hard come by at times. I was wondering which 4 cyl. swap has the greatest potential (staying with toyota motors) the scion tc 2-az engine with a great following already and almost unlimited parts and interest, the experienced 3sgte with years of modding, 5sfe just throwin it out there, later 2zz celica gts, the 4age variations, or maybe others i did not mention just getting some ideas. thanks for feedback

If we're talking about engines that fit without relocating mounts, or cutting firewalls, then I would say 2zzge for sure.
If you're up for a lot of cutting welding and fabricating, a 3sgte is the best. Series of Toyota engines that will fit a mk1 with a reasonable amount of ease: -A series -E series -ZZ series Series of Toyota engines that don't fit all that easily: -S -AZ -RZ etc..... |

that really has alot to do w/ budget, mechanical experience, and just how much work you want to put into it. you can see what engines are easiest to use in mr220v's post

HA i was just about ot post a thread called
"GET RID OF THE 3s/4a...put in something better!" Inside would be the 2az-fe swap idea.... I planned to do this with my MKI but i have had a turn of events here where i can no longer keep the MKI and the MKII. (The MKII has the v6 swap already on its way so i have to continue on that) So that sucks because i was just about finished getting a deal on a 2az engine ![]() SOMEONE DO IT ![]()

the 2az sucks a LOT more than you give it credit for weasy
i wouldnt wish that pos on anyone. driving a scion was a huge letdown. a modern motor shouldnt fail up top as horribly as that thing does. its got 5sfe top end, and the 5sfe doesnt have any sort of variable timing. i think the zz motors would be a great choice.. very light and have a reasonable amount of power.. or you can boost the hell out of them. still a light setup. |

They are designed to be tunable...take a look at all the major manufactures of high performance parts...they all stock high and low compression pistons, there is turbo kits, manifolds, heck even ITBS....
They weigh less then more 4bangers and the E series that it bolts onto is also lighter (apparently) |

I agree with mr220v, the 2ZZ is by far the best engine you can put in the car with little fab work. There is only one mount to mess with.
The complete engine/trans assembly is ~70lbs lighter than the 4A (thats like removing a sack of concrete from the engine bay). Engine is much lighter, C160 is slightly heavier as it has a larger case and an extra gear. Oh, and it puts out about 65-70 hp more at the wheels. Sure, you build a MK1.5 which will take far more work to install and have MORE weight with a few extra hp. And, while he is still trying to complete the install, your having fun driving your car.
