"Toybusa"
Allright so this idea may piss a few people off but I don't care. I've been doing my research and it seems this will actualy be quite easy. Hayabusa 1300cc to replace my 4age, and I'll prob use the JEFFco reverse differential JEFFco Reverse Differential. I have talked to several people that build sandrails and they seem to think I should have no problem makeing this work. And prob. quite well. One of the builders has even been thinking about makeing a street car with the "Busa" himself.
So here are some figures...the 1300 is putting out 175bhp at the crank and most dyno runs I've come across are putting down around 140whp and between 99 and 105 ft/lbs. so when it comes down to it that would be an automatic increase from the 4age at low 90's whp and about the same ft/lbs. Of course you also have to figure the 4age weighs somewhere in the 700lb range plus another (I'm guessing at this point) so 200 lbs for the transaxle. Now the 1300cc busa is say half the weight of the fully assembled bike (bike=473lbs) so engine would be say 236.5 lbs. This is prob over the real weight. Now the new JEFFco diff if I remember correctly 73lbs. So well say 235+75=310lbs total and the 4A+C52= guessing 900lbs...so well lowball it and say the 4A+C52 as little as 700 lbs. 700-310=390 So I'll drop about 400lbs off the car. Hmmm...since I've already dropped down to around 2000lbs this additional 400 loss will leave me around 1600lbs. Just a tad bit more than your average sand rail. now of course I haven't accounted for the loss of the stock coolent system, or any number of other random parts that will no longer be needed. So now all I need to do is sell my International Scout II to get at least some of the cash up for this project. So now you all can rant and rave about how this is such a stupid idea and how Toyota designed the car the way it is for a reason, and that I'll totaly screw up the handleing by dropping so much weight, etc, etc, etc... Then I'll laugh my @$$ off when I put it on the track and smoke some people. |

I think the only thing that will make us laugh at you is if you don't complete the project.
With that said, keep us updated as parts get collected, and more ideas come to mind ![]() |

Shouldn't it be "Toyabusa"? Now that's fun to say.

Some people are going to hate on you for messing with a rare car, or at least rare by todays numbers. But I figure it's your car and your money.
As far as dropping a busa enging, someone already did that in a Smart Car...that thing is crazy! |

My Silvertop swap set (Fully dressed engine, tranny, exhaust header, harness, etc.) on a skid came in at 295lbs. The tranny, one whole axle, one cut axle, and the skid was 50-something lbs. when I shipped it to the guy that bought it. I'm just guessing too, but I'd put the engine at somewhere around 200lbs. I can move it around on the concrete floor effortlessly, and almost pick it up on my own. I actually did move it a short distance (8-10") on my own, but by that time I had it stripped down to block and head (no cams, no oil pan) and it was damn hard, so I'd say just over 150 lbs. Some other sources for you, but you'll have to convert - 2.2lbs/kg. Toyota 4AGE Engines I still kind of hope you do the toyabusa though I'd be cool to see... |

Thats why I said I was guessing on the weight...I was mainly considering that it has an iron block as opposed to aluminum. I'm sure I also over figured for the busa motor. But all these numbers were my swags (scientific Wild @$$ guesses) of course I plan on getting a pre-op weight and a post-op weight. I figure when you account for all the other odds and ends as well, things like the coolent system, and prob swap out the fuel tank, etc. I will be loseing a rediculus amount of weight.
I really hope I can get my truck sold soon so I can start ordering parts, or buy a hayabusa and part it out. |

I'd be concerned about the strength of the motorcycle transmission (or finding a car trans that will mate up)

700lb 4age? With a 200lb transmission? Me and my brother must be stronger than we think since we pulled a blacktop 4age with transmission attached out of the back of a station wagon this weekend.
I managed to get a 4age longblock into the back of a car once by myself. Anyway, there is an aw11 swapped with a ZX11 motor on one of the European mr2 sites. The results were pretty decent. |
