I don't know.. but I have a 03 Spec V, 87sc Mr2, and a 93t MR2. So, if you want me to measure, I can. But, I'll warn you.. the qr25de or whatever is not exactly a great motor. It has problems like butterfly valve screws flying off into your motor. Plus I hear the internals are not really that great either. Plus it's really not that impressive. I just use mine as a daily driver, 4 doors, with a little better than average power.. Thats what I wanted in 2003. |

sounds like a big headache, esp when you try to figure out how to make things like axles, shift linkage, etc. work (among numerous other issues)
if you need power, there are plenty of good, cheaper, and easier options all with a nice Toyota badge to boot ![]() |

I would not recommend that engine to anyone after the issues my brother had.
He owns a 2003 Spec V, which rolled over to 9x,xxx miles and the engine blew 2 rods out the block; the company he got the new engine from wouldn't even take it as a core. The reason behind it was the fuel injectors have issues, and were never recalled. They basically hosed gasoline on top of the cylinder heads. This gasoline pooled up... eventually it detonated on him when he started it and blew up. The engine was replaced in a matter of a few hours worth of work, (by a very good mechanic - it took him 1 & 1/2 hours to drop his old engine and tranny) but that wasn't the end of it. The replacement engine ran a whole 10 seconds before it vapor locked and skipped a tooth on the timing chain. In simple words... I wouldn't recommend this engine, but this is just my . |

I have an 03.. butterfly valve screw blew through my engine at 7,000 or was it 11,000. Anyway, I got a new engine at 43,000 right before my warranty ran out. Screws are now locktited from when they put a new intake manifold on after the screw blew through. I had numerous other problems, but none that left me stranded. For example, fuel pump was causing the car to take on average 6 cranks to start the car, new radiator b/c they coudn't find how I was getting dried up coolant spewing on over my rad, new rad cap, new radio, new front CV joints, New steering rack, new intake manifold, new engine, and I"m sure there are more including the recalls. Now, I have a lot of newer parts on my car, and no car payment. Hopefully, I won't have anymore major problems. I never heard of the fuel injector problem. I'm not really worried about it. I know the butterfly valve screws should have definetly been a recall. |

I've been poking around this site, gathering bits of useable info for swaping a 1M into an AE92/101 and I saw this thread. Oh boy, let me tell you. Don't do this swap. I can't wait to sell my 03 Spec-V. The QR is a lame duck, the 6 spd is notoriusly clunky and known to fail as well, along with all the problems already mentioned, as well as sensors dying periodically. You'd be better off with a 2ZZGE. At least they're reliable (well, at least from what I've heard, they are) and the transmission will be 20x times better, no lie.

My buddy killed one in 92K miles... drove it like a race car and bless Carmax's heart for making an offer before he finished it off. Guy cranked it up to pull into the shop after my buddy traded it and abruptly shut it back off. I hear it wasn't pretty when he fired it back up. I suppose that is the down side of 7 day guaranteed offers to buy ehh? That motor was stout and the car absolutely hauled, but the key was, you had to drive them hard all the time, as the computer was a learning computer. My buddy drove it hard pretty much every time he got in, and he raced one that some girl had turboed down in Georgia and tore that car up. All he had was a injen cold air intake and flowmaster exhaust and a few cheap upgrades, where she had spent about 3-6k in mods. Newer cars can be quirky. His was an EARLY spec-v... was presold but the guy that had put a holder didn't show up that morning to pick it up... well my buddy was there with cash so he got one of the first ones in the city. The transmission also was having grinding issues... might have had something to do with his drunken aunt getting ahold of the car one afternoon on a booze run though... yikes!! I'd suggest another option being as these motors don't seem to last when pushed hard. We looked online fairly extensively after he grenaded the motor and couldn't find but maybe one other that had gone at a similar mileage (he put lots of miles on the car quickly), so he was possibly the first or second blown spec-v in the US
, lol. |
