Continental 4.6?

Anybody heard of swapping in a 98-02 continental 4.6? I see alot of northstar swaps, figured the 4.6 ford would be a nice swap as the 4.6 Mach 1/Cobra parts interchange giving you plenty of power options.

that engine is HUGE! not compact at all. ur better off getting a FORD 4.0 V8 used in the Jaguars. im not sure if they have a transverse version of it. but that would be a better option. its smaller in size than the gigantic ford v8 4.6

You do?

I've heard on one, and then a few v6 swaps But this is talking about the aw11.

Would you be able to get a fwd tranny for that massive ford engine?

this can never happen...all facts asside...WHO WANTS AN AUTO FORD ENGINE IN THERE BEAUTIFUL 2!!!!! first off, AUTO, secondly, FORD...reliability is automatically shot...plus the MASS amounts of weight in the rear end would prolly make it so u cant even TURN the front wheels....it would be a wheelie 100% of the time!!!

Also from the dimensions I found, its smaller than a northstar.

Northstar------------28W 26H 31L
Beating a dead horse, northstar style - and hello! - HybridZ
Continental 4.6-------26 5/8W 27 1/8H 23 5/8L

Have you driven a ford lately? as a technician, I see very few of the modular engines with any issues. other than the few as result of neglect and just general manintaince. I have worked on more Northstar engines than I can count on both hands with head gasket issues in just two years. Your obviously biased away from ford, I used to be, owning one and working on them, I have come to appreciate most of the ford V8's

My reasoning for the swap is I just want to do something different, and though I do not perfer automatics, the wife can't drive a stick. I picked up an 87 T-Top for $150 that has electrical, fuel system, body (little banged up), and trans issues. And, I've sold all my 16V parts.

Its an idea thats been kicking around in the back of my mind.

I grew up on chevys, married the wife with a 72 Mach 1, 351C. Been working on it here and there, built an engine for it when the ZDDP crisis hit the oil manufacturers, currently its close to the 600HP mark on 87. Also, if you read any of the Engine Master challenges, the CHI cleveland heads have dominated.

what is that engine out of then usually? Speaking of auto's, i'm one of the unfortunate few that has the auto box in an aw11. Honestly, they should have never fitted the 4age with an auto, it just sucks balls, so i can see why you need a bigger engine

If it's smaller i don't see why it shouldn't fit, but i think your best bet is to measure an actual engine to see where you're at, and get a better idea of the dimensions

You can get the same motor out of the mArk 8 LSC which has even more power. And bashing on fords lol? That's why toyota/lexus fell to number 4 i think on reliability list for jdpower and buick is number 1 and I think ford/mercury is 2

the mark 8 has a rwd bellhousing and will not work, however you can swap the Navigator 5.4 heads flow better than all the 4.6 heads, just need a custom intake to fit

Buick, and most GM products I work on plenty of them, crank sensor, cam sensor, air conditioning, and ignition issues
Ford (Truck heater cores), Toyota, Honda, (Saturn 1.9's), its usually maintance

Government regulation has hurt alot. Toyota being partially owned by GM isn't helping either

Why would you say that if they're number 1 in reliability right now?

internal parts-YES, block-NO

Another version of the aluminum block that you may come across is the front wheel drive (FWD)
block. This block is modified for use in the FWD Lincoln Continental. Changes include a different
coolant flow, additional bosses for engine mounts, and a unique bellhousing bolt pattern. The FWD
bellhousing bolt pattern renders this block useless for rear wheel drive applications
, as no
rear-drive transmission bolts up
