So..... When I bought my 2 3 years ago an 1986 with an 85 parts car I had no intentions of modifying or swapping. One day my poor little 4age decided to drop the oil rings into the oil pan, and the plans started forming as a buddy pointed to a 3sgte in his shop. 1 year later I gutted the 86 and fitted the 3sgte to the car, I used a xcess power T3/T4 setup and a trunk mounted intercooler and achieved my goal, to chew hondas a new a#$. It was short lived and 3 months later the drivetrain came out because of blown rings and head gasket and the car went to storage for the long cold Canadian winter. Now I'm almost ready to put the engine back in. I've put top and side coated JE 9.0:1 compression pistons .5mm oversized in, ACL bearings and all ARP fasteners, the machine shop decked and planed both the head and block to make sure the cometic MLS headgasket would seal properly and reground the valves and checked everything over and prepped and balanced everything. I'm using a custom built sidefeed intake manifold with a water-air intercooler ducted directly to a ford 5.0L throttlebody and only one 90degree elbow to connect a GT3082R turbo to the intercooler. I'll be using a turbosmart 38mm bypass valve and 38mm external wastegate. My injection will be a walbro 255LPH pump, 3/8" fuel lines and venom 550cc top feed injectors with an aeromotive pressure regulator. A clutchmasters stage 4 ceramic 6 puck sprung hub will finish off the package as well as a custom 3" exhaust and remote oil cooler and filter and that will be all I'm doing for this year, the next thing will be suspension/brakes and body work. So what do you guys think am I nuts for doing that much to an 86 mr2 with plans for more in the future

That sounds pretty sweet. I'll always love the idea of a mk1.5...
A mk1 with a 3sgte has to be one of the meanest machines on the road! |

<threadjack> I can't do it now though, i just bought that old '69 benz, so i'm going to be putting my money and time (mainly time) into it for quite a while until it's up to a more acceptable standard, ie things like speedometer working, and fuel injection system tuned. Oh yes, it's fuel injected! ![]() ![]() ![]() </threadjack> |

I sorta agree, but all the same there are some many things that just need time and little money, time to re-wire a new deck, time to put in an original, time to find parts online, time to do engine adjustments.
And really, right now time and space to do this is what i'm lacking ![]() |

Oh i know full well
![]() But most of my problems are simply tuning and lubing issues, for instance my power windows, not all working right, mainly they just need to be greased, my engine, looks like i just need to do the valve clearance and injection system tuned as i think it's running rich, and my tranny needs a new diagram thingy which is cheap/easy to replace and i don't have to pull the tranny. Really the injector system and the minor rust is all that i'm going to be spending any descent amount of money on, and that goes just the same as for any car. Within 6 -7 months of owning my mr2 i've already spent most likely upwards of $2000. Within 6-7 months of owning my old '67 benz i probably spent $500 or less, most of that on speakers. so I got the engine painted and prepped and she looks gorgeous. I bolted the turbo on the engine today and started wondering about how its all gonna fit into the car. The place I ordered my turbo from shorted me some flanges including the 4 bolt 2.5" flange for the turbo that I need to fabricate my down pipe. I'm custom building an intake manifold with rectangular runners and a ford 3" throttle body with the surge tank measuring 16" long, 6" wide and 4" tall. The fuel system is getting converted to 3/8" lines with a water to fuel cooler to acompany my water to air intercooler and a top feed rail bored out to 9/16" with RC saturated 550cc injectors. The final resting place for the oil cooler and filter is in the passenger quarter panel built so all the air going through the scoop goes through the cooler and makes things look nice and neat, I'll post some pics soon

So I'm taking things a little slower and gonna start the body work so when I do get it on the road the cops don't pull her for a safety. I just picked up a used msd 6btm and blaster 2 coil for cheap and am also gonna do the bushings and brakes this winter as well. I'm gonna use 88 super charged rotors and pads because after some research I've discovered that the only difference in the systems is a slightly larger and thicker disc so all I have to do is modify the brackets a little bit. I'm still up in the air on what to do about my struts though and I've decided to buy my stuff from twos r us, I've found their quality to be pretty good and $500 plus shipping for the brake restoration kit is alot cheaper then what I could here. Also does anyone know of anywhere to get body panels, I'm gonna build my own floor pans but I'd like to build as little of the quarters as possible. Thanks

How bad is the rust? Post up some pics, if it's really bad it might just be better to get another car thats in really good shape and transplant the goodies over to that one. |

In my part of the world its really hard to find an mr2 that isn't rusted out in fact its really hard to find an mk1. Its actually so hard in fact that if anyone has spare shifter cables and are willing to ship to canada message me. On the other note its mostly the rear wheel arches and sill plate connector and rear connectors and twos r us has a complete set of all three pieces its just a little pricey. Also as strange as it sounds I feel that each car has its own personality and thats how my car got the name of tempermental redhead.

One other thing, does anyone have experience installing an MSD ignition, I need to know which wire to attach the white crank trigger input.
Thanks |

ya i think the only place to even think about getting an mr2 in canada is vancouver, it's been months since i've seen another mr2 on the road. I thought regina would have been a big enough center to have a few though.
