Infor for Swap
I have a 1988 mk1 USDM N/A planning to do a engine swap with a JDM 4agze engine (ae92 4agze top motor intercooler)? My question is will this motor be a complete drop in with no modification? Is it a drop and plug in motor?
Wires? Vacum lines? Hoses? ECU? Anthing else I need to know? What other motors can I also swap in considering it be easy to swap and least expensive? |

The wiring needs to be done custom. MR220v offers a service works amazing (wow i say this alot....but as i've seen it first hand, its worth it) The vacuum lines will be specific to the motor. Carbon cannister and brake booster are the only lines running to the chassis you will need.
not sure how the coolant ports are set up on the AE92 but probably need to be custom done. You will need the AE92 All the 4ag swaps are going to be typically the same level of difficulty, since they bolt in. if you put a v6 then the job gets harder. |

Keep in mind that in California, a jdm engine at best is going to require egr and a 4wire o2 to be added. They will probably also require the usdm ecu. Many JDM motors simply fail on site.
If the ref is not a concern, then yes, a jdm mr2 4agze is bolt-in. A corolla distibutor type 4agze will be more trouble. Here it's best to simply get a usdm 4agze wiring harness, ecu, etc..... If this is a distributorless motor, then you might want me to make you a harness. |

i cant remember if the egr is electric at all...if its vacuum only then yea i mean it should be simple to add on

have you considered a rebuild instead? idk what california says about internals...but i bet the ref wont know what pistons you have in there |

it fails because there is no EGR and it is post 65 or whatever that year was. and it fails because it is a jdm motor. You cant inspect a motor for sale in japan in the us for some stupid reason. Just gotta know people like i do

Depending how rigorous the inspection is, you could retrofit egr to the car.
Here in Atlanta, I tell them exactly what it is. My 86 is exempt next year. |

lucky. Thats what i'll do if I have to is retrofit. Near philadelphia it is a pain. A repaired muffler fails emissions.

Lots of stuff, thanks, I just sold my EF9 civic and got my car last year, Yes, i'm already working on a rebuild a completed long block, new internals, bearrings, piston, rings, etc all those goodies. However, i'm doing modification too, taking off tvis plates, minor porting head (intake/exhaust), combing partial all 8 runners into total of 4 runners to the best i can. If i have more i would do more but right now this is what i'm doing rebuilding a daily beater.
Yea, just researching about how to do a Jdm 4agze swap thanks everybody... |
