The e51 axles are put together differently, so they are not prone to the same problem.

my ae101 gze in my mr2 is mated to a C series and it held up just fine on 8" race tires
Gotcha, thanks. Any issues with performance or driveability if there are different gear ratios between the two?

Cheers,
Alex

My Google Map

reliability I wouldn't factor gear ratios into.... the 4age and a 4agze should spin at the same rpm given the same transmission.... the e51 might have an overall lower rpm when cruising in 5th, but I don't think it's all that much lower (maybe 3800 vs 4400 or so).

I actually like the driveability of the C series better.... the car feels lighter and more nimble, and it's faster getting up to speed than the E series is.

But, the E series won't fail you... and if it did, the motor isn't anywhere near stock.

Keeping that all in mind... I have an e51 with axles and a TRD Japan racing clutch sitting on the shelf and I've opted for a C52 from a corolla and a stock 212mm clutch....

3vzfe is probably a upgrade for a 3sge. If you can choose between a 3sgte and a 3vzfe, i know which one i'd definately go for.

But noise wise... 3vzfe > 3sgte (in stock form )
Noise, and HUGE TORQUE BAND!

I got mine from a totalled Camry that I literally drove home (It was rear ended) and with a power robbing automatic and several hundred pounds of excess weight it outran my N/A MK1 MR2 like it was nothing. While I cried because I was beating my little MR2 in the turdiest looking Camry ever, it made me EXETREMELY happy to think of how fast the V6 will make my MR2!

Besides, I got the camry FOR FREE, and most VZ's are WAY cheaper than any 3S-GTE. So price wise I have to lean towards the VZ again.

However the 3S is easier to swap, easier to modify, and has a more plentiful aftermarket support affording it the ability to cheaply make big power when compared to the VZ.

Really its apples to oranges, but the V6 sounds better than sex.
