Ok I never have and depending on the advice I get, never will.

But has anyone cut stock springs on there 91 2nd gen?

If so, how much of a drop? How much did you cut off? and how much of the spring rate it change?

I know it's stupid and many people are against it, but if a slight cut will improve the handling and lower the car, I may do it.

Ok guys i need some help. I'm not really sure if it's normal or not. But my mr2 feels like the motor twisting or something like that. For example, when i pick my brother up from school, i'll be in first gear behind someone and if i let off the gas it slows down rather fast and not very smooth. And when i barely give it gas to speed up, it then feels like there is some sort of play in the rear end. Kind of like a go-kart with shocks in the back, if you ever drove one. Just feels like the back end picks up. I have TEIN adjustable shocks, so i know it's not the shocks being soft, cause they are really stiff. So what would cause something like this? I'm trying to explain it the best i can. Thanks for any kind of help.

I'm thinking of buying one, but I have a few questions first.
One - how do they hold up with age? Any known problems? Is the roof likely to leak if I get a targa, like it does on some cars?
Two - I'm not allowed a turbo (according to Australian law), so I need an NA car. Wikipedia's model list specifies a 180hp model, as well as a 165hp and 130hp model, but the article doesn't actually mention the 180hp model. Does it actually exist? How can you determine which cars have which engine? Like, if I buy one, how will I know which engine it's got?
Three - are they a reliable car? I'm not one for home repairs, and I don't want to pay a fortune fixing it up every day. I really just need a car that I can drive most of the time.

Thanks :P

I have been playing around in my mk1 for a year and a half, bought a second one swapped a 20v silvertop in it but it wouldnt run right so I sold it for a huge loss and I picked up a mk2. I love the mk2 body style so I didnt feel too bad buying this one with no paint and quite a few other few issues. Came with 94 jdm seats and a 94 steering wheel and 93 I think wheels. I cant really say that any of them do much for me but we'll see how everything works out.
This came out of the driveway,
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr220v007.jpg
This came in
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2013.jpg
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2014.jpg
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2015.jpg
I'd rather a momo or something else.
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2016.jpg
Rather sparco, momo or corbeau seats but I'll deal.
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2017.jpg
Needs a dash, carpets, and door panels for the interior.
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2018.jpg

Onto my problems. Throttle cable; what is this? This looks wrong and I'm 99% sure it is not set up the correct way.
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2020.jpg

What all do I need here? Do I need an afm? I also think I'm missing the coolant overflow?
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2021.jpg

Wiring issues
I think this is for the alternator but theres quite a few plugs so I'm not sure about that. The car is missing the alternator so maybe.
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2021.jpg
This wire?
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2023.jpg
Ground to where?
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2024.jpg
This is the one thing thats really confusing me, The starter gets the fat wire goes to the starter and theres a plug thats already plugged in and then an extra plug next to it and I think there is a ground coming up.
Image: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/Rickrickdudeatverizondotnet/mr2025.jpg

I'll be asking more questions as more things come in. I should be getting some stock tail lights and a bumper this weekend hopefully.

Here is the story. My cousin wants to race me in his G35. He said he doesn't want to race me until he gets it running 14.0 with Manifold, exhaust, and intake. I just want to know what mods can I do to beat him. I beat a G35 when I first swaped in my gen 3 3sge from a roll like a bumper. Now I have K&N filter with greddy sp exhaust. I really don't want to get headers b/c their like 600 for those fugi. you 3sge guys outside the U.S. wanna help me on parts? I really dont wanna loose to him. well probably settle this @ the track along with a rsx-type s, and SI(not worried about SI). Oh, and the G35 will have new tires. dont know what kind. but I gotta be faster than 14's

First off, I am still looking for someone in town with the correct scanner to do a diagnostic, so I don't have any code info yet.

The story...the last two days have been cool and rainy, and I've read many stories about how some of these cars seem to hesitate in that weather. So I thought I'll just get thru this, and move on. Well, the hesitating kept getting worse, and finally when pulling away from a light, it just flat out died. No spark at all.

We've determined that I am getting fuel to the cylinders...plugs wreak of it, and the smell of gas is evident when turning over. So we started looking at spark. I have none at the distributor. I am going to get an ohm meter on it this morning to check that, but if anyone has any suggestions, or has been thru this before, PLEASE let me know...I really need to have it running again TODAY!

TIA...

Winter project (hopefully)

hows it goin everyone. so heres my idea for my winter project if i get this job im hoping to get. I swaped in a 3rd gen 3sge the begining of this year and i absolutly love it however, before i did that, i was building a 5sfte (I WANT BOOST lol) so i decided im going to try and supercharge the 3sge. yes i know, high compression and boost dont mix (unless you tune it right) so heres the plan and parts list im thinking.

1. eaton m45 supercharger or eaton m62 supercharger (the m62 is off the colbalt and redline and the m45 is off mini coopers and merc's)

2. 440cc injectors off a 3sgte (unlike the 5sfe, i have the same fuel rail and injectors as the 3sgte so i should be able to simply drop them in "i think":undecided (other 3s guys help me on this)

3. greddy emanage and wideband for tuning (only planning on 6-8psi so i think this would be adequate)

4. already have a complete hks exhaust so that should be fine.

5. already have autometer colbalt boost and narrowband a/f gauge's in car from 5sfte project.

6. thinking about using the stock 3sgte intercooler i have for an aftercooler for the sc.

7. possibly a thicker metal head gasket to lower compression for higher boost

i know alot of fab work will be required however, i am fairly confident in my abilitys to make custom mounts for the sc and whatnot and if not, i have a friend who works at a place with a water jet and cnc machines so.....

the main thing i am concerned about is the tuning so anybody who has any ideas about any of this or the tuning part, let me know. also, what sc i should go with ect.

thanks

I think it mite be the a\c belt but I'm not sure. I tried spraying both the alternator and ac belts with a belt dressing I bought at the auto shop but its still there. It happens everytime I turn on the car and it stays until I shift into 2nd. Sumtimes it even stays sounding wen I'm on 2nd. It also sound everytime I stop or slow down. Its getting really bad and annoying. Any idea wut the problem is? Thnx

Hey guys I'm about to do my brakes on my 92 n/a mr2 but I'm not sure which way to go. On one hand I could do n/a rotors, pads, ss brake lines, and a good bleed job. I know that's more than enough for n/a. And on the other hand I can do the 93+ turbo brakes.
For the people that have done the 93+turbo brakes, you need 93+turbo rotors, pads, bracket, ss lines, and the bleed job? I've also heard about replecing the master cylinder. Also does it look nice and was it worth it?

I mostly just use the mr2 around town. It's my daily driver.
Thanks guys

I know these are super common minor mods, but since I just got back in to MR2's (after about 7 years without one-and forums weren't around yet), I wanted to share my Saturday's work with you all...

First, I put an intake on it. Not for power, as we all know they don't do much, but more for sound!

Image: http://www.chadandbrittne.com/images/MR2/11-14-09-023w.jpg

Then we spent the next four hours fighting the removal of the stock exhaust manifold and down pipe. I had a crack near the flex pipe, so I decided to throw on a set of SSAC headers and down pipe.

You've all seen the pics before, but here's the before and after headers-

The studs on top were corroded, and in need of the acetylene torch to remove the nuts. The bottom studs were kept preserved with oil, so those came off easily.

that rusty piece attaches to the firewall, anyone know where to get a nice new one?

and also, this thing is just chilling in my engine bay, and have yet to figure it out.
