This is ________. I knew it would happen one day...
As of late, all of the packages i've been ordering have been left at my front door, they don't even knock on the door anymore (goes for all the shipping companies i've used, UPS, FedEx, USPS). For instance: I was waiting for my alternator to show up on Thursday, so I sat in the living room while I was studying for my bio-chem test. No show. I had to leave for volunteering, so as I was leaving what do I see...my alternator by the door left by USPS. Now, for UPS: I ordered speedo cables from RockAuto, they didn't give me a tracking number as my order was drop shipped from the manufacturer. Ordered, on the 15th, I get an email saying it was shipped on the 16th. Two weeks later, no cables. I called them last week to see where my order was at. They called the manufacturer to get a tracking number. Turns out it was delivered January 21, 2008. Tracking info reads - Location: FRONT DOOR. So...someone jacked my cables. They used to take my stuff directly to the office (never showing up at my apartment). Then they at least attempted to deliver it to me, and then took it to the office. Now they just leave the ____ on my front door without so much as a knock... |

Just another example, to substantiate my opinion that UPS (and drivers in general) are starting to suck:
I bought some silicone couplers and what not from RRE last year. The shipping invoice and the shipping label on the box specifically states, "Leave package in office" and "Driver: Leave note on door". When it was shipped to me (I had two separate shipments from them), they were both left on my front door. Again, from UPS. ![]() |

UPS managed to lose a $2300.00 BN Widebody Kit for my RX-7, AND my $3900.00 wheels. Needless to say, they had to cut me a big check

I ordered a textbook that was shipped to me via USPS media mail (the slowest and cheapest). I ordered it 3 weeks ago and it is still not here. I went to the post office with my tracking number and they said that it is going to take about 2 weeks because it was shipped media mail - I got my other 2 books from the other side of the country in 1 week. I have been in school 2 weeks without a friggin book. I am going to the post office on Tuesday and if there is no update, I am going to declare it lost and try to have them reimburse me the $75 for a book. Every time I track it, it says it is still at the point of origin......
On the same note, I just sold my oil catch can and mailed it with the post office. I looked at my receipt and the destination said Oceanside (my house!). The package hasn't been returned to me and the person I sold it too hasn't gotten it either. I have to deal with 2 complaints on Tuesday. |

At least you don't have to ship International. UPS insists on charging a "brokerage" fee of $40 on everything they ship to Canada (or at least that's been my experience). USPS, on the other hand, has been every bit as fast, I get a tracking number, and it gets delivered with the regular mail. That means that if there is nobody home and it won't fit in my mailbox, they leave me claim slip and I go pick it up at the local post office the next day.

I work for USPS and we DON'T have to knock on doors unless its something that NEEDS to be sign for. If we get mails (package) that don't fit in your mail box we can either leave it by the door or take it back to the office. Its all up to the carrier, so be nice to them.

![]() On a good note about UPS; Whenever I do get things shipped by them, they always ring the door bell. Even though they ALWAYS deliver at the end of the day. Which is pretty stupid. Only shipping service that does that. |

I use to work at ups and I must say; you have no idea what gets done to those packages! When I started I loaded the semi trailers and I was told that they are hold on average about 10,000 packages. During the holiday season we would put 15,000 packages in them! we would step on the boxes if necessary and we would throw them around! I was never told to watch for fragile/delicate boxes. I would suggest that you don't ship fragile things via ups because of this! I'm not saying the others aren't the same way because I don't know; but I know for a fact that fragile/delicate stickers mean absolutely nothing to ups!!
My recommendation- Insure the package if it's worth more than $100; I say 100 because almost every package sent ups is insured to $100 that's included automatically! |

USPS is pretty good for me because my neighborhood has those mailboxes where they lock it (a system where they put all the mail in that one place, good thing is that all priority shipments are locked in the big boxes right next to the regular ones). This is better for theft problems that many people have. I don't like UPS either as they deliver around 7 pm at night for me and they have been late on a couple of occasions.

My old apartment complex had this setup. USPS dropped mail directly into our boxes. The problem with my current complex is that the mail is all delivered in bulk to the front office. It's then sorted out by the office staff and they place the items in our boxes. If we received any parcels, they write up a slip letting us know it's at the front office and that is dropped our box.

About a year ago I ordered a guage cluster and I think it was about 11pm and I had a few friends over for a poker night and my brother came upstairs(I live in a multi-family house) with my cluster and he said the guy set it at his front door and walked away. He didn't ring the bell or anything! |

I usually have a good experience with UPS. They consistently show up around 11 am and it is always the same driver. I had something that need signature confirmation and the drop days were bad because no one was home. I left a note to have them redeliver a couple days later and they did. They even left a note saying, thanks for leaving a note!
Haven't done a lot with FedEx, but the few times I did I had no complaints. If only the postal service here would stop screwing up....... They screwed me the most. |
