Just not too sure
So, I have decided to do something with my MR2. It hasn't been drivin in about 7 months and I need a new project. I am thinking it would be fun to autocross it, therefor thinking about supercharging it. Just wanted to see if anyone had any fun suggestions.

I'm in the middle of swapping a 4agze motor into a '86 and I can tell you that it is a bitch sourcing out all the parts you need unless you are lucky and run into someone on Ebay who is parting out an SC car (like I just did). There are some people who have the parts and want to charge you through the nose because they know how hard it is to find the parts. But, it's definitely worth it once you've got that forced induction on your car

I dropped a s\c in a 86.......... glad I bought the stripped body (no doors trunk hood etc..) with harness and needed parts. Made it so much easier. Did a complete harness change from front to rear including cluster.

Nice. What did you do with the SC body? Any reason you didn't swap your good doors, hood, etc. to the SC shell?

Bought it from e-bay. He already sold the doors, fiberglass hood and trunk. They had supercharged on them and went fast. It was just a shell with cluster and wiring plus trans and motor. 86 was already setup on suspension and is ready to paint. Sc was wrecked on right front(fender, hood core)

you don't *need* big power, or even much power at all to have fun in the turns

at autocross, big power is akin to masturbation - sure it makes you feel better but its not necessary to be fast. see: STS, lower stock classes, etc
on track, sure it helps you be fast, but the skill is in the turns -Ken, whose idea of fun is schooling guys with twice the power ![]() |

Go ahead autocross..
I've met some of my greatest friends at the racetrack. Go for it!
Go to any autocross, talk to the racers, have a discussion with the technical inspector on where you want to go in car prep. He will make a good friend to call later with questions too. He'll tell you how the different levels of prep will lead you to higher brackets of racing competition. You can race your stock car, without prep. Even your lady friend could drive if they have ladies classes. Alot do. Most SCCA events are booze free, therefore it makes a great place for kids too. (all have insurance and are sanctioned) If you like cars you'll have a great time watching other drivers do goofy things in the name of Racing. Yeah, go for it!
