aw11 crank angle sensor
Hi, so I am putting a turbo on my aw11 gze, I've got the headers completely rebuilt to fit it, finally. And I just figured out the distributor is right in the way, the turbo wont go on with it there. so I am wondering if anyone has put on a crank angle sensor and coil packs to replace the distributor. What car has them that would fit? If anyone has any up for sale let me know too. thanks, I hope you can help

Holy cow! You had to go and open Pandora's Box didn't you?
Since you have turbo charged your engine, you can't use stock ignition and ECU setup anymore. If I was you, I'd plug the Dizzie (distributor) hole, and install a crank angle sensor on the main pulley. I'd go with a DIY Megasquirt ECU/Ignition setup. Its the cheapest way to go. It is also the most difficult and challenging approach. How comfortable with re-wiring that thick bundle of wires in the engine bay, and then programming your ECU with a laptop would you be? The Devil's Dictionary defines "relief" as "the feeling one has upon observing that another person's trials and tribulations are vastly worse than one's own." |

thanks, I'm glad I make you feel better. lol haha. Ya, that's only half of my difficulties, if fact I'm actually twincharging it. I've got most of my little things worked out, just that now. I have a megasquirt sitting on my table waiting to go in my car this weekend, so that wont be an issue. One thing I also heard was I can take off the distributor cap, make a little case for the end and put in coil-on plugs. Since all the megasquirt needs is a signal, it can seperately fire off all the coil-on plugs. My buddy talked to someone who did that with his aw11. Does that sound like it'd work to you?

Wow, you have big plans for your engine . . . twin charging AND coils on plugs!!
You're in way over my head in expertise. In the future I will be ASKING YOU for technical advice. There's another Mr2 forum, which I don't post on, because of its severe censorship, mr2oc.com It has a larger database of posts, and some really impressive tech guys. Just put on your PC boots before wading in. |

That is incorrect, there are plenty of turbo MK1s on stock GZE electronics. Mine is one of them and it was running on NA electronics before that. What are your power goals for the car? I would suggest a log style manifold so you can use the stock distributor. Now, I don't know how efficient the stock electronics would be if you do go the twin charged route.
