I've changed the idle control valve with another one that is known to work .. both were clean though ..
its a 5 speed .. and the a/c does not work . it isnt hooked up, speed sensor is missing, and idle up is disconected (will be connected this weekend when that guy comes and helps me finish putting it all back together) we took the complete intake off of the engine and cleaned everything with all new gaskets .. so theres no possibility of a vacuum leak this time I have checked all the terminals, all are clean and checked the signals all the way back to the ecu to make sure they read the same as straight off the sensors injector solenoid? .. where is that the ground isnt connected where the filler neck is .. I'll be sure to connect that up the ones on the fuel rail I know are good .. found one wasn't connected when that guy first came over to check it out I guess I'll just have to wait and see if he comes over this weekend to get it all buttoned up and go from there .. hopefully it fires right up and I'm good to go but he knows a bunch about these engines .. his has all sorts of stuff like forged internals, nos, crank pulley, bigger intercooler, cams, etc on his 88 mr2 sc he drives every day he's gonna reset / check all my sensors again like the tps and afm hopefully it'll work |

The injector solenoid is located up and to the side of the coil.
The filler neck ground should be a 4 times normal thickness wire that goes under the engine lift hook at the intake near the No. 1 cylinder. Its not absolutely super essential, but good to have. The running problems you're having seem to be par for the course. SC's are extra just more particular and demanding to keep in tune. You aren't the Lone Ranger in this regard. Don't overlook the air bypass valve, its operation fits the running problem you have too. For vacuum leak checks, you might try filling the IC with water to look for punctures. Its harder to check for vacuum leaks when it won't idle. The engine noise drowns out the tell tale sounds. |

FINALLY !!!!
after two years I finally got it running again .. have no clue what it was but we pulled the whole intake off (including supercharger) and installed all new gaskets then cleaned everything and set the tps .. and it fired right up just gotta burp the coolant system, time the motor, and then get the speedo thing that goes in the transmission (I ended up putting it in my mk2 turbo since it froze up on me and it was my daily driver) |

it was probably a combination of electical, sensors not adjusted, vacuum lines not routed correctly, and some vacuum leaks ..
it starts up now and Ive got most of the air burped out .. just gotta get the last bit out and then its on to buttoning up a few things like bleeding brakes and the clutch then putting the rest of the poly bushings in and I'll be ready to drive ![]() revved it a couple times so far .. AWSOME throttle response .. just need to check and make sure the timing is good (should be if I didnt move it from last time I timed it) heres some pics .. she's pretty dirty from sitting for 2 years without a wash .. washed off the front just to get an idea (still need to put on the side skirts and the trim at the front) ![]() ![]() |

well .. its actually been sitting since around 1995
Joe Vick bought it and did (according to him) the first v6 swap into a MK1 MR2 around 2000 or 2001 .. heard stories from a guy that helped that they never got it running right and gave up so I guess he was restoring the car and put in a bunch of new pieces like interior carpet, visors, etc along with paint then they made three sets of the coil overs, 12" brakes, and 5 lug conversions which my car has along with the guys' who helped me finish it and the third was john vicks which is possibly destroyed now (who knows) the paint is 'OK' .. I'm a painter at a body shop and from about 10 feet away the paint looks awsome besides the runs .. but up close its ridden with trash, runs, dry spots, and sanding scratches under the paint .. so it might possibly get a re-shoot if it becomes a second car along side my new 350z anyways .. I'm about to go time it and finish burping the coolant .. just need to find a speedo assembly to go in the tranny and I'll be ready to drive anyone got one they want to sell ???? I just need the long piece that goes in the tranny and the key to hook it to the angled piece .. I have the angled piece |
