I only knew of one replacement, and it was part of the HKS twin-charging kit. No need to replace it though. It either works or it doesn't. If you don't get boost or don't hit target boost, it needs work/replacement. All it does is allow air past the SC when it shuts off, and prevents overboost, which is very rare. If you install a larger crank pulley, you can perform a vacuum routing change that will raise the overboost release pressure, but it doesn't really give any gain to a stock setup.

Up to stock boost I think the OEM ABV is adjustable just take the sticker off the top and melt the wax out of the centre of the ABV and there should be an allen key bolt you can screw up and down. It won't gain anymore than stock boost levels but can lower the boost<_< which is actually pretty useless really.
There is of coarse the aforementioned rerouting the vacuum lines known as the ABV mod which does help out. Google it and you should turn up what you need. What boost are those mazda chargers capable of anyway? just curious. |

That's a turbo... not a super charger.

From what I have read about the Mazda twinscrew 24 psi seems very possible. I know that stock untis do run at 14 psi. I still need to compare the crank pulley size of a 4agze to the Millennia. Other then changing pulley I would like to have a way to "tune" boost. Any ideas?

You don't tune the boost, you tune the EFI to run the boost that occurs with your setup.
Using the OEM sc12, that comes on the 4agze, you won't have the problem of too much boost. Even the larger SC14 (which is in my car), with a aftermarket supplied large main pulley and serious intake mods, the Max boost is 17 PSI. But then . . . . I suppose I have "tuned my boost" by not installing an oversized main pulley. |

i always thought you could but a mechanical boost controller in a vacuum line before a boost guage and then you could adjust how much boost you have... this will only work with a completely deleted abv. so im going to try that when i have a bigger pullley kit.

With SC's you recirculate the over-boost pressure with an ABV.
With Turbo's an adjustable blow off valve is a good device and method to regulate boost pressure. For reasons I don't fully understand Blow off valves aren't used on SC's. Though some factory turbos have ABV's instead of blow off valves. That's probably done to prevent the startling noise of a blow off valve. |
