MORE BOOST? sc12 clutch pully replacement
ok i was wondering if anyone tried to repl the sc12 clutch pulley with a smaller one? the only one i have noticed is small enough would be a 96 ( i think) chrys sebring a/c comp pulley . 5 or 6 rib and about 4 in dia. theres a calculation on the net to figure out the boost itll produce. ive had tjhought about it but decided not to due to 1-cost 2- no specialty tools for that job 3- lazy 4- did i say cost?

the best thing is to replace the crank pulley.(i'm sure you know that)
the later model GZE (JDM) have a smaller SC pulley and if you replace then you most likly wont have the electric clutch so the super will run constantly. Not a real bad thing but it wears on the life of it and gas mileage will go down if that maters in your case Jason |

Hey fellas,
Kind of corn-fused about the conversation so far? (but interested!!) Dee-a American produced compressor pulley on the metric S/C shaft? Seems like shaft length and diameter would a much more important issue? Whether it's keyed on or bolt tightened? any previous research available on this? 5 rib yes, 6 rib I wouldn't. Jason-the JDM Supercharger has a smaller pulley? Cool, never knew that. I don't get the "run all the time" statement? if you replace the OEM pulley with the JDM OEM why wouldn't the JDM unit also have a electro-magnetic clutch? Just to add a question to the mix? If you check the sc-12 specifications between a automatic S/C car and a manual S/C car the automatic has a higher boost, interesting huh? BTW This Club's archive section might be worth reviewing, it offers much previous discussions on crank pulley replacement options and resultant boost results etc. Hey Dee what's a fmic? |

Sorry I was saying if you replace with some other pulley(not cluched) it would run constantly but now that I have reread the post I see he is replacing it with a cluched pulley.
Yeah the JDM motor puts out 10psi stock(do to smaller SC pulley) and has a higher comp. ratio 8.9:1 puts out 165HP. so how much dose the auto put out? Toyota must have do it to make up for not being able to drop a gear and getting the heX out of dodge. FMIC=Front Mount Inner cooler |

yeah as far as doigng the swap i didnt yet it was hard enough to find a cluth type pully with 5 ribs thats smaller than the 10 psi one. so i havent done so thats why i posted. theres a link on club4ag to a site that does the math on the dia of the pulley and psi output.
the reason for doing the s/c pulley is to help prevent cavitation on h2o pump and strain on both h20 pump and alt pulley brgs as they will be spinning MUCH faster than intended to. thats what i want to avoid. catastrophic failure. my friend has a 4age+Z hachi and his s/c is hard wired so per my suggestion he added a toggle sw so he runs n/a most times to save gas and s/c wear. |

If you get the NST pulley kit its like $300 it comes with a water pump pully to make it spin slower(under drive pulley). And its the biggest pulley you can buy its 180mm. I think it makes you put out like 15+

Pulley Brothers out of Australia is manufacturing new magnetic clutch pulleys, and fixed SC pulleys for the SC12. The pulleys are smaller, so they spin the SC faster, but for reasons unclear, they use 3 rib fan belts. Definitely narrower than the OEM 5 rib belts.
I may end up buying one of these before too long. But only because its the only new part available. |

Hey Jackstand, how do you plan to overcome the 3 rib to 5 rib problem. Some of us dummies like to know this technical stuff?

Ok, now that's a technical answer I can comprehend.
Kinda like middle of the road huh? |
