would it work better to take parts from the gze and put them in the 20v, possibly lower compression that way?

Different intakes you need to adapt them to put a supercharger setup on the 20V the 16v flows pretty well for the boost you shove through it boost is not that fussy. Also tried boosting 20V pistons and can you say broken ringlands? I think there were a couple other things at play but still that motor was toast in one day so I went 3s was just so sick of scrounging parts for the 4agze to keep it alive the 3sge just went plonk, weld, vroom not that I think that's an option here.

Easiest thing to do is just get a 4agze and overdrive the pulley or put a turbo on it its easy and it works. Also you could turbo the 20v as well that would work well if you set it up right. Problem here is I have no idea of your mechanical and tuning knowledge/skill so your call depending on what you think you can handle.

Oh yeah goals matter as well if its a daily driver or a track car and do you want to set the engine up for drag or track. And the parts you have available make a difference to hard to say "do it like this" over the internet

o how i wish i could go 3sgte and call it a day, but i live in california so i figure the best way to cope with emission laws would be to stick to the stock motor.

my goals for this is to have a nice daily driver and something to bring to the track while retaining good fuel economy.
at the moment im torn between the gze and silvertop.
the gze puts out around 140/50hp stock but seems to be easier to get power out of.
the silvertop is more powerful stock (160hp) and natutally aspirated, which is better on gas because its using the power it already has rather than being forced to create it.

what ive noticed from a lot of 20v owners is that the power kicks in around 4500/5000rpm where as the gze owners start losing power at 5000/6000rpm. i was hoping that the 160hp the silvertop makes plus the 40hp the sc12 supercharger makes (after properly fitted) would = 200hp of awesome powerband!

An SC in stock form, will beat the 20v's in stock form. Between HP and Torque, the later is the more significant number.

The 20v internals are too light and the compression ratio is too high for boosting. However you could put a 20v head on a block with SC internals. You could fab up, or customize the intake manifold to make it work. Properly done, well over 200 HP wouldn't surprise me.

When you do Basic Performance Mods, and plus some additional mods on an SC, you can get to 200 HP going the SC route alone.

Actually if you used a 3sgte from another usdm MR2 it IS a completely legal swap.
Also, I keep hearing that Toyota overrated the hp numbers for the 20vs so they're about 130 - 140 stock st/bt. IIRC.

I'm looking into this as well btw.

darn just looked at a video that showed a corolla with a silvertop being dyno'd stock puttin out 130 to the wheels thats dissapointing. SC are awsome might just go that route and stick on a larger one

wish i could put my 05 celica gt-s engine in their with little hassle, 180 n/a ponies to the wheels sounds awesome

i see this kinda stuff alot but the reason all the numbers are so off is because the different dynos pop different numbers....i know a kid who dynoed a full stock car on a dynojet and ended up way above stock numbers really its better for basline then tune to approixmate... PLUS every engine is still giong to be just a bit different wear out differently...stuff like that not an exact science...but h-e-double hockey sticks if you can slap a sc on there your set but take MANY pics and diary it so people like me can follow

Look YT, your GZE information "sources" have their heads up their shorts. Way up!

Power on a 4agze does NOT fall off at 5,oooRPM, it starts there !

To prove this to you "Noticeing Types" I'm pointing out that the Toyota Engineers even went to the point of using a "close-ratio" racing transmission that does NOT allow the engine to fall below 5,000RPM between shifts.

I'm calling you out on this buddy and the rest of you Urban Legends types spouting GZE information on the Internet they don't know squat about.

20 year GZE competitor

Yeah Listen up to Mr2tim.

I taught him everything I know.

And he still doesn't know anything! (joking)

But seriously, my SC14 equipped GZE pulls hard right up to when it cuts out for over-reving.
