So I did something incredibly stupid and ruined my stock supercharger on my 4agze equipped 87 Mk I. I will never admit exactly what I did.
The supply of SC12 superchargers on Ebay sort of dried up the last several months. One nice specimen went for next to $500.! So I decided to upgrade to the Ogura made SC!4 which varies from the 15% smaller capacity SC12. The 14 unit is just under two inches longer. But has the same height and width and pulley position. Its almost a no brainer except the inlet and outlet tubes and mounting hardware are all completely and totally wrong for an MR2. In addition to the larger compressor capacity, I noticed that the pulley on the 14 is 1.25 inches less in circumference that the USDM SC12 pulley. What that means is the SC14 will spin at 7500 RPMs, and give the same engine RPM, the SC12 would turn at 6900 RPMs. So between a faster spinning Supercharger, and increased capacity for compression, I will need to make some changes to keep the engine from detonating from a lean mixture. When I say detonating, I really mean in Hole-in-Piston-itus. So far, I've definitely decided to install a Two Stage water alcohol injection system. Purchase some Supra 7mgte 440 CC injectors, and possibly install a Rising Rate Fuel Pressure regulator. Comments, encouragement, opinions, and advice are welcome. ![]() |

thats what i want to do to my sc, do the intake tubes on the sc12 fit onto the sc14 if so just bolt them onto it and go from there. i hear this mod is good for 16-17lbs of boost. plus theys sc14 superchargers are only $150. easy thing to do sell your sc12 on ebay and buy the sc14 and use the left over money to do the fuel system. thats what i'd do.

The Sordid details
I ended up paying $200 for my SC14 including shipping costs. Its was sold as a JDM import, and had wear and dirt build up that matched the claim of low mileage.
I watched one Ebay auction for a quote "JDM" SC12 go for $500. This event is what caused me to decide to do the SC14 upgrade. Note this dollar amount appears later in this post. There are two approaches on the intake and outlet pipe problem. First is cut off the flanges of the stock SC14 and fabricate from scratch thereafter. The Second is to cut off the flanges of the stock SC14 and cut up, weld, & blend the SC12 pipes to form "new & improved" piping. The second approach is the easiest by far. The first approach could yield better performance because you could fabricate a larger set. As outilined in my thread starter, you would definitely need to enhance fuel delivery, and take measures to prevent high intake air temperatures. I think I am going to have to spend about $500.00 to complete my SC14 upgrade. My guess is I will be in the "MK I 180 HP Club" when I get the bugs worked out. |
