hi, my name is dustin and i have a 87 mr2. I just rebuilt the motor with 8:1
pistons and it runs fine with the stock ecu. I've got all I need to turbo it, but I dont know what to do in terms of engine managment, basicaly I need to fined a way to pull the igntion timing back once the boost comes on. the ecu is a n/a with an afm. I was a turd and melted the corners of my old pistions by not being able to pull the timing back. I am a mechanic and all the nut and bolt stuff went just fine but now I need help from people who arent electronic turds like my self. I love this car but I dont know were to go from here. Im also brand new to the forums so sorry if anoy with dumb question. |

I am using a MSD BTM (boost timing master) to pull timing on my 5sfte. It will retard timing a selected amount per psi of boost. Kind of a crude device but it works. something that controls fuel and timing together is a better option.

thats cool, what motor is the 5sfte, are you running that modual with a n/a ecu.
I ask cuz if that would work with my n/a ecu while boosting it that would be awsome. |

The 5sfte is the stock NA MKII(1991-1995) MR2 engine with a turbo added on.

It is really easy to install. You will cut the wire going from the igniter to the coil and make the corrections there. The ecu wont even know its there.
YOU WILL NEED A 8910eis TACH ADAPTOR. This will amplify the signal going into the MSD so it can read it. There is a good diagram I was given, I will see if I can find it again. Here it is:MSD BTM 5462/8910eis install help |

THANK YOU SO MUCH DUDE. IM PROBABLY GOING TO GET THE BTM, A GOOD KNOCK SENSOR, AND A WIDEBAND O2 AND GUAGE BEFORE BOOSTING IT AND GO FROM THERE.
THAT DIAGRAM IS A BIG HELP. I CANT BELEVE THE STUFF YOU GUYS KNOW. |

Just passing it on. I had to learn it on here myself.
Before you commit to the btm, look up SMT-6 or SMT-7. Those will let you control fuel and spark in one box. Better than a BTM and SAFC(as I have now), and if you have a wideband why not tune in you fuel? |

You are welcome. There is also a 6462 that does the same thing, but is a better model. I am not sure exactly what the differance is, but I think the 6462 has the 6al ignition stuff along with the boost retard feature.
