Spore?

Anyone here buying? If so, I'd like to hear any reviews. It's available today via store or direct download.

Apparently it has some DRM issues. Pity; it looks fun.

I've tried the game out. It is alright for what it is. Personally it is way too easy. It doesn't seem to focus on any particular gaming style, but instead incorporates a few different styles with RTS leading the way for the most part. So far it doesn't seem to be very long. There are only five stages, all of which take under 2 hours for beginners and much less than that for replay.

The biggest thing it has going for it is the creativity involved with making your own races. The animations that go along with the number of different parts you can use are pretty well done, but not functional to your game play for the most part.

Overall it isn't a bad game, I'd give it about 6.5/10.

I've played it, got through the first two stages, then it crashes repeatedly on the loading screen to the tribal stage.

My thoughts- the game has some cool points, but as was mentioned in reviews, creature design is pointless aside from pure aesthetics, because everything is based upon stats of the parts you install. Your creature designs are severely limited in the pursuit of making the creature editor very easy to use. The game is pretty repetitive, and overly easy- this coming from someone that likes easy games. Almost nothing involves a challenge- it's either you destroy your opponent or get curb-stomped. Each stage goes by WAY too fast, with far too few challenges.

I'd like to play the tribal stage and beyond, but unfortunately the game is bugged and wont go any further.

Overall, the game doesn't meet the hype, and a lot of the cool features that were in the his demonstration videos a couple years ago didn't make it into the final game.

I'll second what Raptor is saying. My girlfriend's brother got it and loves it, but I played it and wasn't as impressed as I thought I was going to be. I had been looking forward to this game for a long time. It's too bad.

Also, SOMEHOW installing Spore screwed up the entire registry to the point where the computer couldn't even start up unless it was in safemode. Her dad's a software engineer for HP and still couldn't figure out what the hell happend... still nothing from EA, but we had to reformat the computer to get it up and running for her little brother.

Yeah I wont be buying it with the DRM issues, the fact that EA apparently dumbed it down so they could sell add-ons...

..That and it doesn't seem nearly as impressive as I thought it was going to be. I've been waiting for about 5 years so it's a big disappointment. I think the game industry sucks right now.

^Agreed, I'll go back to jumping on turtles' heads and throwing shells for a few more years. Hopefully something more interesting will pop up later.
