Hmm...so either way I'd have to rewire the harness so it doesnt matter if the car is a turbo or not. I'm in the process of looking for a 2 with a sunroof. Sould be soon. If I do that will be my next step is the 94+ motor. You think its worth the money or would the gen 2 be better?

ive never ridin in a gen 3, but my thought is that the gen 3 has only 20 more horsepower, although parts are more expensive and hard to find for a gen 3, the gen 2 is the same as a usdm other than a few small differences, im not sure tho, someone will correct me if im wrong

Gen3 swap DONE!!

That 20hp goes a LONG LONG way. IMO its more that worth it to go gen3. I'm extremely bias though. Lol It's really not the 20hp that got me to buy one. Its the new/better electronics, no AFM, better turbo, looks cleaner(IMO), and was just a better starting plateform for me. I wasn't planning on any heavy modding at all for a long time so I wanted whatever was better in close to stock form.

If you're doing it, go gen3. Gen2 doesn't get worth it till you go stand alone on a good tune.

Agreed
My Gen 3 motor makes more / better power than my Gen 2 ever even thought about making. It's 20 HP, a ton of response, and a better operating control system (which means better running engine). I run PFC and stock turbo - I will get dyno numbers soon enough.

yes gen 3 all the way...if you can afford it. basic mod'ed gen2 is equal to a stock gen3. just ask my bro with a basic mod'ed gen 2.

i have a gen 2 with a few bolt ons and i think its as quick as a gen 3 if not jus a lil faster.. but i would still get a genIII swap if i had the money. i think the newer motors are a lot easier to mod, and i could get the axles n tranny with it n finally have LSD!!!

i got a 91 N/A with a Gen3 3S...was worth evry penny, what made it that much more sweeter was there was not a single wire that had to be wired...i got the Apexi Power PC full ECU....plug and play..would recommend it 2 any 1, the only flaw to the power fc is that is doesnt back off timing when knock is herd...the gen3 has far more stock upgrades then the gen2, but yes parts are hard to find...

i agree with all the above as well. if your going for BIG numbers gen2 is the better bet only cause its cheaper out the gate BUT if your looking for 250-300whp gen3 all day WAY worth it! dp, exhaust, boost controller set at 20(or so) and fcd.... ummm sounds good to me
. and oh yeah get a hux waste gate or make your own. better response at higher boost.(20+) |
