91 5SFE to gen 3 3sgte questions

Ok I've had my 91 N/a for a few years now and the transmission just recently got stuck in first. Shifter is real lose and i believe it is the linkage but anyways I've wanted to swap a gen3 into my car for a long time so now this gives me a good reason to do it.

First thing I want to know is what other parts will I need/want while im doing the swap. I know ill need a fuel pump(denso supra, or walboro) and a better exhaust system(thinking greddy sp for quietness). Are their other things that I will want such as maybe engine mounts or something of that nature? And is there anything else I might want to do while the engine is being swapped?

As someone who is in the middle of a 91 NA to Gen3 swap I suggest you buy a rear clip. There are too many little items that you need to get (intercooler, electronics, wiring, etc.) to easily do the swap without the clip. The clip will come with the stock Gen3 exhaust and everything else that you need, with the exception of the fuel pump.

As an alternative to buying a clip you should also check out Basement Digital's NA-to-Gen2-without-a-clip walkthrough in the Gen2 section of this site.

So i could use any year 3sgte rear suspension correct? Just trying to figure out the cheapest way to do this. Getting a gen3 clip shipped seems like an aweful lot of money, ive seen engine/transmission go for much much cheaper(2,500 shipped, vs clip that's closing on 4k shipped)

Yes, any E153 transmission should work. A guy on here (I've forgotten his name, maybe Trey MR2?) did a Gen3 swap without buying a clip. Even though the motor may cost $2000 - $2200, the total price of the swap came out to $4k, pretty much the same as a clip. Just FYI, you may be able to do it for a little cheaper.

Yup and Trey had to source out all of the parts that were not included with the clip. I did a Gen 3 Swap with a clip and it was very very smooth. Everything lines up and bolts up you know where all the electronics go and all piping and fittings are there. I think mine was 3500 for the clip.

Do you remember where you purchased your clip from?

I got mine from Venus Auto in Sacramento. It was $3200 plus shipping. I would recommend them, they have good customer service in my experience and the clip was in good shape.

what i noticed here was that a clip cost almost just as much as a decent running 3sgte mr2 its self. so why not just buy a running mr2 turbo then??
