Gen 4 info
Was looking for some info as to what all id have to do to get my 91 na running with a gen4. I know ill need an mr2 tranny(going for turbo lsd) and axles etc. But what else would i be looking at buying to get this thing running?
If anyone knows of a write up on this it'd be helpful. |

useing a 4th gen in a mr2 for a swap is a bad idea.
the waternecks, alternator, harness ect is all set up for a FWD chassis. you will need to source a bunch of parts to even get it running in an mr2. a 3rd gen mr2 clip or good engine set is the way to go for a swap. |

I assume you are referring to the Gen4 3sgte, and not the Gen4 BEAMS 3sge, correct? If so, we have completed that swap already. The harness is available now to make it plug and play. The mounts are the same as any other 3s/5s. You will need the typical NA to Turbo swap parts though (hubs, axles, etc) if you are starting with an NA chassis. The other parts for this swap to be truly plug and play are on the way. It is an awesome engine and IMO blows away any other 3sgte in terms of bang for the buck. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Actually it's a very good idea.
Kameleon has one running in his 91 mr2. Compared to his previous gen2's, it's a less laggy motor, and makes more power right off the bat than a gen3. You do have to round up some additional parts and you'll have to get a turbo transmission, however, you can pick up motor swap sets for $1100-$1500 right now. The cost of doing one of these is actually similar to swapping a gen2 or gen3 3sgte. You just don't get the convenience of a clip. I do the custom wiring for these. I make a totally pnp harness which installs like factory. Wiring for these is very similar to the wiring I do for the beams 3sge. I generally charge $350. There's only one gen4 that I know of in an mr2 running on stock gen4 electronics, but it could very well be the best bang for the buck swap you can do in a mk2 mr2. We'll see. |

Yeah... forgot to mention... I am running FULL STOCK Gen4 electronics. No CEL or anything. No need for running Gen3 ecu and such like alot of people thought you would. The wiring was done by mr220v and was spot on the first try.
I wanted to get a dyno of the car but it will be a while due to the local dyno shop shutting down before I could get over there. We are redoing the suspension on that car as we speak so maybe we can find another dyno close by as soon as it is done. |

hey, Kameleon, would you post pics of how do you plumb you waterneck's ports? Did you keep the stock Gen 4 3SGTE waterneck (thermostat side and water outlet side?)?
Or did you use a gen 3 MR2 3SGTE outlet waterneck? Let me know! I have a lot of question for MR2 owners who want to swap a gen 4 in their 2. Especially about the waternecks! Thanks Sam |

^you can go either way really. You can do some creative piping (which is what Kameleon did) to add a filler neck, or you can get the gen3 housing. Both way's work, but the gen3 housing is tidier.
With my Celica redtop beams 3sge, I used the gen3+ housing. |

Hmm do you know when the parts to make it truely plug and play will be available? I was planning on doing a gen3 swap initially but the more i read, the more i wanted to do gen4. Engine is generally cheaper as well. Just wondering what other parts I would need to compare price swapped compared to gen3.
Where can i get this swap kit for $1100-$1500? That sounds about what i'd want to spend+engine/custom harness from mr220v Last edited by Brandon02bdb; 06-12-2009 at 08:57 PM. |

We are working on the small details now. No "specific" ETA but just say SOON. Pending no problems like we ran into with the MKI frunk prop brackets.
And mr220v meant the swap set for $1100-$1500 is the ENGINE set... not the swap kit. Hope that helps. |
