Nice write up Tyler. I am doing the same exact thing, however, I am doing a USDM swap... Are you planning on keeping the NA gauge cluster?

I'm convinced that the tow loops are the safest way, and with that much crust back there, it was worth the effort to take off the rear bumper cover. Quote:
I'm going to be on vacation this weekend, so I probably won't have updates until next Tuesday. I should have my clip by then, though. ![]() |

Looks real good.
For my swap, my rear bumper had scratches, so i just used the tow hooks and lifted it with the bumper still on, as im getting it repainted. Good luck with the swap, i started in August, and still am not done. Having electrical issues.Sam |

My swap took about a month, but I was going to school and working at the same time and the car was 30mins away at a friends house.

Fuel tank hell
The fuel tank has been a big PITA. I would highly recommend a lift for this job. I had no clearance because the rear subframe is off and I couldn't move the car around. It was really tough to work with only about 10" clearance.
![]() Draining the old tank completely: Fuel pump install: Butt/crimp connectors are for ghetto stereos, not vital/ hard-to-access components. Strip both the leads on the Walbro harness and cut the screw-down connectors off the stock pump. Flux and tin all of the leads and slide two pieces of heat-shink tubing over the leads. Solder leads togther, preferably AWAY from your open fuel tank. ![]() Use your wife's haridryer to shink the tubing, Important! To keep from doing this over, verify continuity across the newly joined harnesses. Intall the fuel pump onto the brakect (just snaps in) and tighten hose clamps. Install the whole mess in the tank, tie your fuel sender and pump harness together over the fuel level sender access port. |

Here's a series of images from the tank intstall. The mechanical part is straightforward. 10mm bolts hols the hoses, 12mm bolts hold the crossmembers, 14mm bolt holds the pin-strap. Words cannot express what a bitch it was to reinstall the tank with low clearance. Note the hose connections at the back of the tank. The 'fuel-bong' thing has to come off the rear firewall. Disconnect it first and the two hoses at the bottom of it are easier to get to.
Then you can reconnect the harnesses inside: On a brighter note, just about all of the tune-up goodies have arrived. ![]() My clip should be here Friday or Monday now, due to a shipping delay. At least I wasn't losing 'swap time' while spending 2 days on a fuel tank isntall. |

It's Here!
Well, I finally got a call at 10am this morning stating my clip is here. I paid for residential delivery, so I inquired about how they were going to bring it out. Turns out that the smallest truck they have is 53' with a tractor, and they will not assist me, only dump it in the street, plus they can't deliver to my subdivision because it isn't a through street and the cul de sac isn't big enough to turn around. I fully expected this would happen. DO NOT pay for residential delivery. I borrowed my father-in-law's truck and rented a trailer overnight. The rate was $80, but I negotiated with the guy at the rental company to let me pick up one at closing and have it back before 8 tomorrow for $40.
I went to the freight depot downtown to pick it up. Completely stress-free. Clean, organized, easy to manuever (designed for semis) and everybody there was totally laid back. Had a blast talking to the forklift operator. Everybody there was keenly interested in what was under the plastic. I asked the fork driver how much he thought it weighed...he said about 1800lb. I'd say about 1000lb. The bill of laden read 780lb. ![]() Here are few shots of me trying to trailer it up the driveway. I did ok, but I won't be driving trucks for a living. We hooked up a come-along to my logging chain and drug the clip to the end of the trailer. We had to jack the front up to get over where the angle changed. Then we jacked the back up so that it was pointed downhill. Once near the bottom of the skids, we jacked the front back up and put it on one of the engine dollys I build. Then we pushed it on out, letting the rear fall onto the other dolly, and it was free and easy for one person to roll around. |

JDM, Yo
The clip is impressively clean. Minty fresh under the oil cap, and it smells like fresh oil. No shaft play in the turbo. Missing an exhaust and 1 shock. The car took a VERY light hit on the passenger (driver) side intake next to the IC. Hopefully nothing is bent in the IC system. I'm betting this is how it wound up a clip. NO oil leakage anywhere. One of the cleaner I've seen in a while. The "Made in the USA" plug wires are a hoot, too.Props to Ron at Motors Unlimited for a fair deal on a clean clip. Ron was great to work with. He'll never answer his phone, but he always calls you back.
HIGHLY recommended. I shopped for 15 months before deciding on Ron.The clip was well-skidded with a sturdy pallet and well-wrapped. Check out these stickers in the gas filler. JDM Yo! "Dr. Drive" Mad tyte JDM parts for sale (best offer): Shifter surround, shift boot, ashtray, 94+ trunk lid (no dents)... Thanks to J.D. for helping me out and my wife to photographing and putting up with my crazy ass. ![]() |

I also got my motor from Ron, I just wish I had waited and got a gen3
. I had the residential delivery as well, and my friends neighborhood was a little more closed in than yours and the driver was able to back it perfectly down a steep very narrow driveway. We were all impressed, and then we had no fork lift to get it off the truck. So, we had to balance it half way on the lift gate (after using a wench to pull it that far), and then we hook the hoist to it and lifted it completly up and moved it were we needed. |
