I forgot about the throttle cable...doh! The NA one won't reach and the one from the clip is cut. I spliced them together for garage duty, but I don't want to drive it seriously that way. A coolant hose blew off today while I was running it up to temperature. I forgot to tighten the hose clamp and it was just push on. A gallon of wasted coolant and a half-hour of squeegee duty later, and I get to start the bleeding process all over.![]() And I still haven't gotten my replacement exhaust from pontiac5oh. OH...and I broke the nipple off my VTV while I was putting the BPV outlet hose on. Some days are just better spent out of the garage. I'm slightly burnt out on working on it, and the wait for a new VTV, the exhaust, and maybe a boost guage will give me an excuse to chill for a few days. ![]() You guys that do this in a weekend are badasses. ![]() Good news: I got the intake plumbing done, using and HKS intake instead of the stock one. All lights and indicators work right. All interior accessories still work. Retracts and headlamps work. Radiator fans come on and cycle appropriately. Engine bay cooling fan works right. Sounds like it might have been running through the community... I dropped a knuckle assembly off at a local shop to get the barring pressed out and have the new one pressed in w/ the turbo hub well I picked it up and off the bat noticed the dust shield was missing (axle side) no prob. I had a spare later when I got to go play I noticed that the barring was very greezy and looked su****ious... THEN noticed that the retaining ring had one end broken off of it and was beat to hell and also say a nice dent in the "new" barring.
Not feeling too confident I ran a lil test and shook the hub to see if it was loose, it didn’t seem to be so I put it on the car and after tightening on the wheel found sure enough it was loose. a long stream of profound language came out of my mouth as I proceeded to call my dad to vent and let him know I will never outsource any other work for any of my cars unless im standing there watching!!! Arrrrrrrr so I have stopped by Toyota and got a print out showing them that the bearings and knuckles from the turbo and non turbo are the same part... there was a bit of concern about that when I was explaining what I wanted to do |

I can confirm that the bearings are the same. I had mine done at RPM Engineering, which is a local shop here that works almost exclusively with full-out race cars. They took precise measurments with a digital micrometer to verify that the bearings matched and everything was in spec....then they custom machined a piece to precisely hold the spindle assembly perfectly level. They pressed everything apart and bead blasted the hubs before reassembling everything. They were better than new when I got them back. All for $75, and I got to meet some awesome people. I have a couple of friends who are into racing and they gave me a reference to get in there. They're going to fab me up a custom roll / harness bar.

Tyler,
I had to use my na throttle cable as well, at first it did idle higher than normal as it was pulling the throttle open slightly, but after a couple days of use it started to stretch out. I also had a coolant hose blow off, scared me at first when I saw smoke pouring out my shifter, ashtray, air vents, and all other holes in the car LOL. |

Do you have your cruise control actuator hooked up? I took mine out, so I'm a good 10" short. Maybe I'll hook it back up and see if that helps.
BTW....what are you guys doing for a boost guage. I want something not too gaudy. |

Hmm....I don't think there is any way I could get my main throttle cable to reach that far. ![]() |

Plastic spacer? How long is it, it might be just enough to make mine idle a little lower.

No, I removed all boxes. I opened that box that is closest to the firewall (I think), and then removed the cable that comes from the front of the car and attached it to the tb.

First drive tonight!!!! WOOO HOOO!
I finally figured out how to get my stock intake plumbed up correctly, replaced the missing hose clamp and re-bled the coolant. I let the car warm up well and then took it for a one-mile jaunt....limping around. I only lightly boosted it once in 2nd gear....no instrument panel currently, so I don't know what the RPM was.... but .... OMG. Wee. ![]() Got home and let it idle another 30 min with the AC on. No leaks or weird noises. My clutch engagement is a little chattery, though. I don't know if that's normal for a clutch with 1 mile on it. I'm borderline sick at the though of having to take it back apart. I'll give it a while and see what happens. |

Lightly boosted...yah right, I know how strong that temptation is when you do something like that.
