So, I'm needing to change the ignition switch assembly on my 85 mk1, and was wondering if this is a pain in the arse to change? It looks like the column has to come out, but I'm not sure. Sorry, but I don't have a Haynes manual, so I apologize if this is an easy to do process. Can someone please shed some light on this one for me? Thanks.

Call me...
Hi. I'm In Portland and have a Haynes manual but do not have it at work. You could call me on Saturday a.m. or later in the afternoon and I might be able to talk you through what it says in the book (if it covers ignition switch replacement). I'll help if I can. Otherwise, I could bring the book to work on Monday and email you with the book in hand. --Bruce (85 n/a)

I haven't done an ignition cylinder in a MKI before, but if its like the MKII and other Toyotas, you don't need to remove the steering column. There will be a couple bolts holding it in, and you have to have the key in the ACC position to pull out the cylinder.
