Thumbs down Here's an example of what NOT to do!!

Hey guys, just thought I'd share this one with you. When I got my 85 n/a last month, I noticed a veritable RAT'S NEST of wires and crapola underneath my dash (along with the hacked ignition wires..a.k.a. hotter than a 2-dollar pistol style!). Ughhh! I was having issues where I would press the clutch in to start it, and it would start without even turning over the key. Really there was no key, and someone had used a screwdriver at one point to attempt "ownership". Neato. Anyways, I decided tonight to pull out the car alarm, as I'm sure this had to have aided in my car's bizarre starting issues. I have decided to post a few pics so that you can see the crap for yourself. Note to self...don't EVER install ANYTHING like this....EVER!!!! It was pretty easy to remove, but the key was just making sure that there were no "gaps" in the wiring once the alarm was removed. I've not yet tried to start it, but I have no worries. My next ordeal will be changing out the ignition lock assembly. I don't have a repair manual, so I'm a little hesitant to just go ripping into the column. Anyway....hope these pics scare the crap outta ya....cause they did me! Oh, and note the previous owner's attempt at fuse holders!! WOW!

Who know WHAT the frick this thing is...does.....um.....turns on or off!

That is wonderfully asstastic. I think that at all MR2 meets there should be a ritual effigy burning of all douchebag PO's as a matter of course.

Good on ya for taking on the restoration of that nightmare.
