a/c dumps water under dashboard
With the air conditioner on I can hear water sloshing in the dashboard area.
When I take a sharp turn, ice cold water gets dumped out onto the floormats. The water must be leaking from something because it isn't draining out where it is supposed to. My guess would be that there's a drain somewhere to let the water drip under the car. Can anyone shed some light on this? Where is this water supposed to come out? I'd be hoping that this is just a simple problem of some leaves or something blocking a hole. I just got a new compressor and haven't had good working a/c in the car before so it may have been many years since the last time the car had the a/c on. The car is an 87 (in case that matters). I think I had this problem on my 85 MR2 but not as bad (just lots of rushing water sounds coming from the dashboard) -- so maybe it is a common problem? I tried searching for it but couldn't find anything. |

I'm not sure on the MKI, but on the MKII (and most Toyotas) there is a drain tube that drains out near the steering rack on the passenger side. I would trace that and see if it is blocked.

I agree, I think it's a blocked drain tube. I have an MKII and I'm pretty sure I have a blocked drain tube. The A/C blows Ice Cold and works great, but does dump water into the passenger side footwell sometimes...and of course when this happens no water drains under the front passneger outside of the car. I've been 100% sure it's the drain tube for awhile, but haveenot had to the time to tear into the car and look for it. Not to thread jack, but can you post pics or something that will help me locate the A/C drain tube, like I did for the t-top drain tube, so I know what I'm looking for? I can probably figure it out if need, but I'm so short on time to do things, it would be a big help if I had a head start ![]() Anyways...back to the thread, lol. |
