Unhappy Please HELP!!!!

So yesterday I bought my first MR2 from a friend I work with. I was driving it home everything was great. I got off the freeway and all of a sudden a bad ratteling started in the engine compartment. I was a block away from home so i decided to just get it there. As I turned into my parking lot the ratteling stopped and the brake light, cooling fan, and one other light came on. I pulled into my parking spot and when I stopped the idel was jumpping up and down. I shut it off and went to bed sad. i got up this morning to take a look at it and it looks like I lost a accessory belt and the pulley at the bottom of the engine doesn't look straight. I think it is the idler pully bearing but not sure. If nothing else reassurance would be great.

Should be I'm guessing that it is the one that drives the alternator and waterpump. The idler may have seized or just collasped a bearing. Give it a spin and if it doesn't move or has a lot of play that is your problem. If it is the alternator belt then that is what is throwing the lights cause 3 lights come on when the alternator stops charging.

I had one seize once and I pressed it apart cleaned it regreased it and resealed it and it worked fine again but better to replace I was short on time.

It is not the idler pulley it is the crankshaft pulley or harmonic balancer. does anyone know of a company that makes an underdrive or lightened pully for the 4a-ge? Toyota wants 300 bucks for the stock one. I'm thinking of going to the local pick a part.

There are such a thing as alloy pulleys but where to find one I can't say for sure. Try and see if the crank pulley bolt is loose cause those pulleys shouldn't move, it explains the rattling. If it is damaged I would try a wreckers yard (aka pick a part) and get one off any 4age or 4afe engine (MR2, corolla etc etc) cause they are all the same excepting the higher performance 4agze and 20v could be different to. They can be incerdably hard to get off or incredably easy just depends on your luck.
