Something feel off my exhaust manifold

Well Im driving around a round-a-bout and get the clever idea to dump into second. All of a sudden the MR2 sounds like a rust bucket to a rusted boat. The exhaust tone is very loud and something blew off. There are no treads in the hole and all that is near it is the EGR Pipe. I think what should have been there was the reason why my exhaust was already loud and sounded like valve tick or injector tick. The sound is harmonic to the spinning of the cams so I know this is the problem. The TSM just hows a hex like plug in it, and all the pictures online have headers or no detail of the manifold.

So I drew this pretty picture.

I dont have a clue what it is but mine was loose last week and it was knocking. It knocked everytime I would go out but when I had a mechanic in the car the knock would stop. Lucky me huh? Whatever it was it was loose so I tightened it down and the noise stopped. I ended up buying a silvertop for no reason.

Sorry I cant help. It just reminded me of that. Free bump if anything. lol

Think you can get me some photos of it. Did you screw it in or tap it with a hammer? Because it looks like a bolt in the TSM but there arent any threads.

EGR pipe

I think the hollow bolt that holds your EGR pipe in place vibrated out. Its a 24mm large bolt going to nowhere on the tranny side of the exhaust manifold. it goes thru the pipe, and its hollow like a brake line caliper or fuel line bolt, just bigger. I may have an xtra one, but you are better off just finding a header for the car and ditching the EGR system. I plan to on mine. if u give me a cell number, i can send a pic from my cell of mine on my car. just did a head gasket(dont ask, theres other issues) on mine. now its 4sale, NOT running.

Ill have to have another look saturday. I got work on black friday ugh, but yummy money. Im pretty sure its just a bolt, because I see the egr pipe, and Im pretty sure I saw the pipe going into the side of the manifold, not the top. If all else fails Ill take the manifold off and have some 1/4" steel welded into it.

Turns out the top half of this hole is untreaded, and the bottom hal is threaded.

For those that live in areas that dont do SMOG Testing you can get a M18 x 3.25" Metric bolt, and use some red thread locker on the first 1/2" of threading. If its nearly impossible for you to find a M18 bolt, and you dont care about your manifold I have a solution. Get at 5/8" x 3.25" SAE Hex Bolt, and use red tread locker on the first 1/2" of threading. Get a good size 1/2" driver wrench and torque it down til you feel like yours going to break your hand.

Viola! Problem solved and the tread locker will keep it in there for a long time. The bolt does look funky though since its a shinny peice of metal standing out of your manifold. Kinda looks like a hood ornimant for your engine. But hey now my exhaust is Lexus Quiet...
