Is my car beyond repair ?

So I bought an aw11 mr2 and it has damage on both the rear quarter panel and the door itself , meaning that area between the door and the rear is crunched as well . So how tough is this area to fix . And does anyone have a guide on changing this car's rear quarter panel ?

Pics?

Body damage is very difficult to determine based on description. I would have a body shop run an estimate if I were you. otherwise, there are rear arches available for sale out there, but not entire rear quarter panels.

I guess the question is, what are you ultimately going to use the car for? if its just going to be a runabout everyday beater, why bother?

if you are going for building a race car, why bother?

The only thing I can think of is that if you live in an area that rust is a problem, I would fix it just enough that rust won't really be able to eat away at the exposed metal

Well your in luck sort of. I suggest you replace the door (damage around the door handle can be tricky for someone new to body repair) and bump the rear quarter out. Since it is the vent side you can remove the cover over the vent and remove the rubber thing and get down in there to try and push it out again as best you can then work from there. You will need to get the frame where the door attaches as original as possible so you minimize the gap and amount of body filler needed. What you can't push out through the vent use a screw in slide hammer to do. If you still think it is beyond body filler after that then think about a rear quarter, it is strange sounding but you need to get the panel as undamaged as possible before you replace it so it lines back up easier so even if you are set on replacing the rear quarter push the old one into place first then cut and weld. Doesn't look unrepairable though and white is easy to match and covers imperfections well.

parts car

that doesnt look that bad. ironicly, i have a mk1, even though its rusted, has a good right side body on it. i am in the columbus oh area. if you want, i can sell you my car, cant keep it any more. its already listed in the parts area of this site. i would find a donnor car, cut out the bent up sheet metal, and weld the part from the donnor in its place, and use the door from the same car. a mig welder is ideal for this. did a head gasket on mine, now it doesnt start, been trying to part it out; has other body issues

dude it doesnt look that bad i bought my mkii kinda the same way. the quarter skin is gonna be replaced this week! i replaced my door and had a body shop look at it and they said that i can just take the sjin off and pull it out by hand .it depends on your panel. does it require force to close the door? i say just get a new door and bondo the bottom.

I have just the medicine for your ache

I recently bought an 86 white MR2 that was damaged in the front and perfect from the doors back. I bought it for the engine as I am using it on a project 87 model.
If you are interested let me know and we can work something out.
At the same time, I am looking for a center console for the 87 automatic with the hand brake on the passenger side. Anyone with that let me know. I can send pix if necessary.
