1.there is some adjustment for the e-brake
2.there is an adjustment for the idle on the intake (has a small black rubber plug on it)
3.if by heater fan you mean the blower motor there is a small relay of sorts that is behind the glove box that controls the blower on/off and speeds
4.for the stereo first check the fuses if you haven't already

1. I played with it and adjusted it last night. It pulls nice and tight and the handle feels just as it should, and the cables below look just like they should. I can watch them tighten. It's as if the pads in the rear rotors are frozen or something. Do these cars have an adjustment within the rear drum? Like a little wheel you can turn to tighten/loosen the brake?

They have disk brakes not drums And the brakes are pretty much nonadjustable. The cable may only be acting on one side, check to see if it locks both well.

Oh wow. Ya, I just looked at the tsrm and the parking brake is just an add-on to the disc brake cylinder. Interesting... All the other cars I've ever worked on with rear discs have had a drum built into the inside of the rear disc.

Learn something every day, haha.

I guess I'll have to check that the cable is in fact moving the mechanism at the wheel.

The car runs well now and idles a little high (1000rpm after warm up) but other than that its in pretty good shape.

Current Issues:

-Softball size hole in muffler <<Give me some recommendations! (Patch, new muffler..etc.)
-Needs 4 new tires badly. Current ones have bad flat spots.
-E-Brake cables do in fact move, but ebrakes do nothing to hold the car in place
-High Idle (need to check timing still)
-Heater fan does not work at all
-Stereo Does not work

Any suggestions on the above?

Thanks!

I would replace the muffler. Depending on what state you live in a patched muffler may not pass inspection. If the hole was caused by rust then a patch wouldn't last anyway.

Tires are a VERY subjective issue. Do you want performance tires which probably won't last long or tires that have good tread life? Here in Texas we have Discount Tire where I can get tires at good prices. Changing the tire size will affect your effective gear ratio, i.e., a larger outside diameter will lower your RPM at speed but it will be more sluggish off the line. The stock tire size is 185 60 R 14. Most of the SCCA Improved Touring drivers stick with that size or 195 60 R 14's.

The parking brake on MR2s actuates the rear brake pads unlike some other cars which have a separate drum brake. I've removed the parking brake from my car but as I remember it there is an adjustment to shorten the cable. You might check to see if the rear pads need to be replaced also.

High idle can be caused by any number of things. First, try adjusting it. If that doesn't work check for vacuum leaks or follow the troubleshooting guide in the BGB.

For the other electrical issues you need to get a BGB or its equivalent. The problem could be a bad fuse, broken wire, corroded connection or bad brushes in the motor (heater fan). This car has fuses and connectors EVERYWHERE!

Got new wheels/tires. 195/60/14 on 14x6" wheels

Just thought I'd update the thread with the tire issue solved and the heater fn working on the third setting only.

This is what controls the fan speeds if any part of the wire is broken it will kill those individual speeds

it's behind the glove box it looks like this

If you haven't already found the adjustment for the idle it's under the black rubber plug that can be seen on the bottom left of pic on the intake

Broken Links? Definitely interested in seeing the heater control pics.

The idle adjustment I can find via the TSRM. (BGB)

UPDATE:

Patched up muffler with a bandaid patch.

Still can't figure out why the blower only works on MED2 on the climate control. I took out the bower resistor and it's just fine. Next is to take out the unit and attempt to get into the switch and see what's going on.

Ebrake cable can be moved, but they get caught up in the section just before the rear wheels. I'll be trying to lube them up and get them to move more freely soon.

High idle is fixed, and stereo still doesn't work. Haven't checked anything on the stereo yet though except that I can see that it is plugged in, haha.

Summary:

- Ebrake can be forced to move, but cables get caught in the section before wheels
-Heater only works on MED2 position and blower resistor is in great shape
-Stereo does not turn on, but lights up with headlights

Your handbrake cables sound like they need replacing, they fray in the sleeves and then stop working.

No idea about the blower. Would say the problem is the control unit itself at a guess.

The stereo is not worth messing with usually, they are old and a cd unit with a couple of inputs is far better, used ones can be brought online really cheap. It is where I got all mine.
