Motor Mounts

Does anyone know where I might find new or gently used motor mounts for a 1986 MR2? I have replaced the clutch and I would like to replace the three that attach to the trans. Thanks.

You should update your profile to show the area where you live. That way someone nearby might be able to offer you something. Otherwise, not many may want to bother shipping such heavy cheap items.

Good point, but be careful. I tried using them and I ended up with a lot more vibration noise from the engine. Other people have not reported this, or are not bothered by it as much. I found the extra noise to be similar as to when I used a TRD front motor mount and pre-stressed it too much. I would guess that those not experiencing much extra noise probably had really worn mounts to start with, but that is just a guess.

well any insert or full urethane mount its going to cause more vibration.. as the stock mounts are softer to allow them to pick up all the vibration.

Yes, but a lot of first timers are not going to realize just how much noise they can create. They are great for some and not so great for others. It all depends what one's goals are, and what you can live with.

I put the inserts in and got a noticable increase in noise and vibration. It now causes a loud and annoying rattle in the middle of my dash under the clock. Have taken out the radio and some other pieces but can't quite reach the area, so I guess more of the dash has to come apart Some of my problem may be that the side mounts are old too and those are the ones that support the weight of the engine. So time to replace them as well.

I'm not so sure that worn side mounts are often an issue. I have changed really old ones on my NA and noticed virtually no difference at all. The front and the back ones, are the ones that really make a difference.
I took the poly inserts off mine because they were making far too much noise and with only partially worn mounts they were also making them a bit too stiff. Starting from a stop with really stiff mounts can sometimes really be a nuisance. You can end up having to really feather the throttle to keep from lugging or stalling the engine.

I have an A/T so haven't had any problem yet with the engine stalling. Haven't really noticed much difference at all except for the loud rattle in the dash.

Yeah, I can understand that. That quick a clutch with soggy mounts can present some interesting issues.
