To test the motor mounts and the amount of engine movement pull the emergency brake, lift the hood, start the car and have someone watch the engine while you engage the clutch like you were going to drive. If the engine flops around they need to be replaced.
Regarding the clutch, you said it was a new one. It's very possible that either the flywheel wasn't turned before the new clutch was installed, and or it has since been subjected to high heat - (burnouts?), the flywheel now has burn spots on it and it wants to grab. You will only really see the effects of this in first gear taking off from a stop. Starting in second will mask the issue as you have to rev the engine higher and slip the clutch more. If that's the problem the only real solution is to pull the flywheel and clutch out, turn the flywheel and replace the disk and probably the pressure plate too. I hope it's the motor mounts as they are a whole lot easier to change. Good luck. |

hey!
It's now registered and insured, just finishing my wheels up and torquing them to spec before I drive her around. Has anyone experienced a leak between the transmission and the engine before? Any easy fix for it? Pretty sure I'm leaking tranny fluid at a slow and steady rate, it sucks. I'll have an update soon on the shakyness! Sorry for the delay! |

There should be no fluid in that part. It has to be dripping down from somewhere.

The rear (flywheel side) crankseal may be leaking letting oil into the bellhousing. Clean the leak area and around the housing if you can to try and follow the trail of where it comes from.

Went for a test rip last night. No shakes what so ever. But, as I was guessing, my tranny leak is leading to a few problems.
Transmission was very noisy, I'm guessing and hoping from lack of fluid. Took a quick peek underneath and it looks like the leak I mentioned eariler may be originating at the drain plug. Hrmmm...... I'm out of town this weekend (actually on a bus right now.. haha.. love this technology) but will get new fluid in it on Monday and try again. ![]() So, in closing. Crazy Mad shakes at take off, no problems in reverse = very bad engine mounts. ![]() |

Bwhahahhahahahah. The leak was definitely the filler plug, only while the car was parked on my driveway (and the fluid was against it). I drained the fluid to check it, it was fairly clean... but... It had the consistancy of water (and it smelt NOTHING like manual tranny fluid). I'm pretty sure the kids that owned the car before me had put ATF fluid in it... lol. Regardless, I'll take her for a spin later and see if my transmission noises are all gone. Hurrah for easy fixes? (fingers crossed...) |
