Good online websites for manual trans parts?
My 5 speed manual just died on me. I'm going to drop the trans to do a rebuild and also will be replacing the clutch at that time also. I'd like to find a reputable place online to order the parts from. I'd prefer to buy performance type replacement parts (due to longevity of the parts) if possible, however, if need be I can do with the OEM stuff. Where would you guys recommend that I check online for these parts?
My car is an 87, naturally aspirated, 5 speed manual. |

you may want to get quotes from your local dealership. you'd be amazed at how cheap some of the toyota parts actualy are.
also, depending on the dealer, and the part, discounts might be available for the asking. www.toyodiy.com will give you all the part numbers needed. |

Thanks for the info. I'll try the dealerships around here first.

Having a transmission shop rebuild your tranny could cost thousands in parts and labor. And I think you will find that except for the most basic parts, the Dealers won't be able to supply the parts for a rebuild. N.L.A. No longer available.
What I suggest instead is to find a junk yard donor with significantly lower mileage than your transmission has. Alternatively, if you want an even lower mileage unit, you could buy a transmission from a JDM importer. You might have to swap the shifter mechanism from one side of the tranny to the other. This is a fairly simple procedure that you could do yourself, with just a tiny piece of welding work you might have to farm out. Or how about this, swap in a supercharged engine, so that you'll be able to outrun a whole lotta Honda's and most Acura's too. |

Just thought I'd give you guys an update; it was the clutch that was bad. I paid $103.99 for a Luk brand, which included the throwout bearing and alignment tool. The flywheel didn't have to get reground. It was actually a fairly easy task (compared to dropping transmissions on other cars). The hardest part was getting the trans back in (I used a regular jack and the help of a friend). It shifts like new now. The input shaft was still good, and the trans didn't have any real wear considering the mileage.
Now all I have to do is fix the rear quarters, paint the car, and it's good to go. |
