Need help with stalling issues
I just purchased a 88 Supercharged MR2, I'm new to MR2's but been around turbo and supercharged vehicles, figure before I spend any money on parts I'll ask for help here. Ok, the problem is that the car will start and run normal for about 20 seconds and stall (like someone turned the key off), it will not start until about 5 min. later or sometimes does not want to start at all, I've traced the problem that it is loosing spark, I've replaced the coil but still same problem, it has new plugs, cap, rotor and wires, any help would greatly be appreciated.

Isolating the problem to the ignition circuit basically leaves the fusible link in the positive battery cable, the ignition switch itself, engine main relay and then the ecu.
If other accessories are functional, i.e. radio, fan, etc…, after the engine stalls, then I would investigate the engine main relay, which I believe is just left of the battery. You should be able to open it up and check/clean the contacts. My initial thought was the fuel circuitry. At your favorite dealership, or on-line, the factory service manual is highly recommended and is affectionately known as the Big Green Book (BGB). |
