How to save your Mark 1 N/A alternator

Ever look down the engine cover drain hole on the passenger side of the engine?

Do you know it drains virtually onto the alternator.

If you add a small diverter to this engine cover water duct you do not allow rainwater to penetrate your alternator on a regular basis.

Done right that could also provide a sun shade for the overflow bottle.

Doesn't it defeat the purpose of having that vent? Can't you do something similar by the engine bay or on top of the alternator?
