Prothane Bushings - Any comments?

Hi MR2 owners,

Has anyone used the "Prothane" polyurethane bushings on their MR2s?

Any comments? Would you use it again if you had to do it over?

Thanks.

Sincerely, Tom 85 MR2 with 251,000 miles and counting

You need new bushings.

Prothanes are a little more firm than OEM bushings. They are a part of an overall handling upgrade package.

The only downside to Prothanes is they will transmit more road noise into the interior.

well I have them on my mkII ('91) I love them. Very esay to install. (with the right tools). As for the road noise I have none, no squeks what so ever. Make sure to use a good amount of lub. Thats how the road nosie get in.

My Google Map

Installed complete set in my 89, including steering unit. Winter 2007. No problems or complaints. Well matched with my Eibach springs -1", KYB GR2 struts and Addco 3/4" sway bars front and rear along with the Russel SS brake lines.

Fun Car!!!

I installed TRD hard rubber bushings on my 87 (about 10 years ago) and it really made a huge difference in handling. The Prothanes are stiffer as I recall so it should also make a big difference. You should have a good press and proper sized arbors. It is not a hard job if you have the right tools. The only thing that would bother me about poly bushings is if they squeak. I can stand more road noise but squeaking from my suspension really drives me crazy. I had hard bushings on the rear swaybar droplinks on my WRX and no matter how much grease I put on they would squeak -- had to go back to stock.
