Parts Availability
I don't have an aw11 yet, I would like a supercharged version, I was wondering through, are all the parts still available from Toyota or elsewhere?

If you only have to rebuild one, then you shouldn't worry that much, as there are a huge number of normal rebuild parts still available, and many others as well. If you want to build one from scratch, that is another story, however.
![]() I am just completing a huge refurb/restoration project on my '89 SC, and I have not had that much problem replacing even out of the ordinary rebuild parts. That being said, however, I have found over the years that Toyota ocassionally gets their part numbers screwed up, such as when they claim a part is no longer available, but actually is, but is now only listed for the NA model, or perhaps only for earlier year models, but is actually the same part for both. You just need to have some patience and learn how to research ordering the parts. Additionally, there are still an awful lot of parts available online as well, and can be significantly cheaper than Toyota, even if you get a big discount like I do (I'm putting some of their grandkids through school ). A good parts counter person won't mind if you shrink from paying their sometimes outrageous prices on parts, and may even be able to source generic parts for you. |

Mr Mike,
The Supercharged version of the Mark 1 mr2 SC had only 5,000 units imported and therefore would be what most car folks consider as a "Limited Edition". The "junkyards" throughout America no longer "stock" our cars, the demand is slim and therefore there is no profit in it for them. You may find a dead one laying in pasteur but odds are it died a horrible mechanical death if not mangled beyond recognition. This choice of car will require that you do your own mechanical work or pay huge sums of money for others to do this work for you. That's reality. If you are the type of mechanic that can be creative and have some semblance of a "making it work" aptitude this could be your car. If you are a perfectionist this car will sit in your garage for a very long time and your pleasure will be in visiting your prize not in enjoying it on the road dusting off old mustangs. The mid-engined car is a very exciting car to drive, the Supercharzed version will not leave you wanting for over 100mph fun. At the same time 32mpg and that Sunday afternoon drive with the t-tops off...priceless ! Shop wisely my friend. |
