WHATS THIS HARNESS!

Hey i just got an 86 non-turbo mr2 for dirt cheap. At first thought it was just the alternator causing it not to start. But now know that is not it. I need to check the starter soon, but im waiting to get my floor jack back from my brother. In the meantime, i was looking at the wiring going into the rear trunk and i noticed a harness that didnt go to anything.

Its on the driverside of the rear trunk, sitting right below a box the says "SPEED CONTROL". Theres a harness going into that box, and i dont see anything else near that it would go into.
I was wondering if anyone knew what this harness goes to, what it does, and if it would cause the car to not start if not hooked up.
Thanx

Well my brain is on the other side of the trunk, and has all the wires going into it. And for the life of me, i cant see anything else there.

Hmm... Does the car have, or did it have, cruise control? Is it, or was it originally, an automatic? my 2 was previously an a/t with c/c, so I got a couple unused harnesses in my trunk just hangin out (on drivers side as well).. they don't affect the starting or driving of the car tho

Yes it is a dead end on 5 speed cars, on the auto it is plugged into a trans control unit.
