Question *HELP* Mk1 N/A Lagg Problem pls respond

I just got this mr2 1988 Mk1 N/A and it always seem to lagg around 2000 to 3500 RPM, I've changed O2 sensor gas mile improved but lagg still there, i've even double check timing both area TDC at the cam shaft and at the pulley seem perfect according to the marking, spark wires seems correct to each cylinder...but lagg underpower is still there so i told myself forget it, when i have the time i will rebuild a motor with my doing of acurate timing

If anybody can help me, suggestion, is it anything else that might effect this problem, Vaccum line, other sensor, valves,

the car seem to have a timing off but i already check timing with gun light ok

Anybody help give me ur expertise

You were right to check the timing first, that's usually the culprit if the engine's fine at idle and has a problem at higher rpms. Did you check timing on both cams? Could have jumped time on one cam and not the other.

Is your check engine light on? If so, codes will tell you where to look.

Have you checked compression? Head gasket ok?

Do you know how old the fuel filter is? Or how old the gas in the tank is?

Yea, car idle fine but I think i should check both of the cams again, theres no engine light, car does burn oil when first start in the moring might be worn valve seal gasket or maybe piston rings but can't really be piston rings because it takes a while for oil to go down maybe a quart every two weeks...I can try cleaning the afm i'm sure it needs a tune up.....
