Can't say I'm many bits mature, as I often do floor the thing, but thats cos the thing can only do 97Kph on a flat road a on a bloody wonderful day. Can't say I'm a good driver, cos I've had a few near accidents, that were of course, completely my fault.

But yeah, I'm still gonna get it.

Hey, sinESter, when you say Dodge Stealth, did you mean the one thats pretty much identical to the Mitsubishi GTO?
.

In the case its the same, its a 3.0 liter turbo'd AWD, which, according to many of my friends (Older, most with alot of experience) is alot worst than the MR2. Story was, the GTO was my dream first car, until one of my friends, STi driver, convicned me of the dangers of AWDs, then switch me to the MR2, but he did mention the huge danger of oversteer...But I'm still too in love with the TRD body kit, so
i would encourage you NOT to get an MR2, you will be seeing an accident soon!!!!!
You have been driving for very little time yet floor it everywhere, and have almost got into a few accidents, this is with a regular car, if you do this with an MR2 like your doing now its not gonna work out. You have to be extremely careful, mature and respect the car which it doesnt seem like your ready for

yes i was talking about a "gto" or "3000gt" or stealth, but it would be a non turbo fwd version. and im gonna get a turbo, i mean fixing it wont be a problem because what would this forum be for if it wasnt for any helpful info at all ? im just gonna get a turbo, since they are what i really want, and ill never be happy w/ a vehicle till i get one. and i also decided to stick w/ the 2 thanks to some helpful, and convincing pep talks from some friends on here. so now i just gotta wait for july!

Like I say, the reason I floor it is I have to, when everyone else is doing 100 on the motorway, the car I was in lacks power in the 5th gear. I didn't on the other hand, say I floor it everywhere, just that my instructor brings me onto the motorway alot...In the same way he start me right out on normal road. I actually drive 5 or so under the limit most of the time, except on an empty straight, but I still don't go crazy with it.

On the accidents thing, yeah, definately due to my lack of driving skills, lucky they weren't anything serious, just along the lines of near bumping into the car behind me when starting on an uphill.

sinESter, there is a fwd version? Bah, thats probably having something to do with the lack of GTOs in this part of the world.

FD?

Supra, most likely. Sports cars are sports cars.

FD = rx7
so it still will be high? how much do you expect it to be? are there any members who have had an mr2 at the age of 16 who can help me out? im debating if i should get the mr2 or not, but there are so many factors(insurance, price, matience, tune shops that actually know how to work on mr2s..blah). and i had no clue that the mr2 had so much oversteer so..im debating if i should get it to practice and improve my driving skills, or stick to an easier FFs like a civic or integra

no actually the insurance is lower , mater o fact its almost free..(or at least should be)

well with young drivers being so skilled these days..its a wonder why we even need insurance at all.

I just checked my Geico stats and the majority of drivers who wreck are old people in slow cars.

whoda thunk it
teens in sports cars have the LOWEST CASUALTY rate.

i think the government should start a program where every teen gets a fast car to start learning in...drivers ed courses decked out with corvettes, thats what I think is fair

i mean cmon they deserve it dont they.

they HAVE taken a drivers ED course..they are LEGAL drivers fresh out of training so ....why not give them a fast car?

it will get them to school quicker
and get them to their Burger King jobs to make fast food even faster!

thanks for keeping our roads safe kids!

VOTE YES TO THE TEEN SPEED CAMPAIGN!!!

Ya my insurance is really high. I dont know the exact number, yes my dad takes care of it, but its not like he pays for everything. I pay him 250 a month for payments and insurance not to mention paying for my own gas. I read this before i got my Mr2 and was actually pretty scared when i got it but now that i can drive a mr car i feel like it isnt any different from any other car in the same power range. The problem really is drivers training. There is never any point where you really need to know how to control a vehicle in order to get a drivers license. Basically if you can push the gas and turn the wheel you're golden. Ya theres the idiot kids too but that doesnt mean that any 16 year old is uncapable of handling an Mr2.

so you would rate yourself as good as a monkey while driving...

because I think even a monkey could manage pushing the gas and steering

if teendrivers werent bad enough..now i have to deal with monkeys on the road ..or actually any species that can push a pedal and steer a wheel.

-bears
-the skateboarding dog could manage
-that watersking squirrel

i orangutans would be the worst dirvers..Clyde was always flipping people off in smokey and the bandidt.

mr2 mk2's are the best car. the factory clear coat is bulletproof, you look like youre going really fast when youre parked, and lots of people will want to have sex with you.

p.s. My dog just drank wine. I think hes drunk.

I dont think that looking good has anything to do with this thread at all... seeing as it's a given when you own an MR2, MKI or MKII.

I agree with most everyone else. I really felt like a novice when I got my MR2. I came from a lincoln towncar, a hyundai accent, an isuzu hombre, and the first car I ever bought myself an MKIII supra. The supra tought me a few things, but the Mr2 tought me what a car is SUPPOSED to feel like.

That being said, I don't think a 16/17/18 year old or even a 19/20 year old should own an MR2 without some sort of performance driving education. I even want to do that, and I'm 24. On the street, my car NEVER goes near it's limits because I know that I don't know how to keep it out of the ditch if I do go there... yet. I think if I was 4 years younger, and I had this car, I would have already been wrapped around a tree. I think a 240sx, MKIII supra, or a 300zx are good cares for learners. Let them get a feel for that, and then move on to something more difficult. It's just like snow skiing, you don't start out on the hardest slope do you?

Since I last postedin this thread, I've bought myself a MKII to replace my MKI - due to reliability issues and the accident that I had - AND DIDN'T CAUSE.

I think, if you're mature about it, you're going to bejust fine as long as you realize that in other conditions (rain, snow, ice) this car doesn't handle like most other cars.

I don't think that I would have been ever a safer driver if I waited until later to buy a car like this (I'm 20 and I've had MR2's for 3 years now).

I've been in 2 car accidents. Both were not my fault. The second one just happened a few weeks ago, and I got rear ended stopping at a red light.

I also got one speeding ticket, also a few weeks ago, and that was very stupid of me, and I paid my fine, and I learned my lesson, and I toned it down a little bit. Where is the harm in that?

I don't think that a specific age group should be like restricted from owning a specific type of car just because of their age. Some old people drive horribly - do we ban everyone over 60 from driving all together because of a few bad ones? Some teenagers are very immature when it comes to driving - do we raise the age requirements on a driver's liscence?
