l have 1999 SW20 with a brand new 3SGE BEAMS engine. Its a VVTi engine N/A.
It was only for local JDM , approx 1000 cars were made. Manual say to use 10w/30 oil.Given Toyota had that oil l used it. But will be going to full Synthetic once l reach 5,000 kms |

I think this depends on how much oil you are burning, on my previous 2, I bought the 12 pack at advance auto. Ran like a champ.

Royal purple FTW! i've used it on my 2 and it loves it, runs awsome and doesn't smoke one bit with no cats and a blitz nurspec exahust. of course i just did a rebuild
. i use RP in my 99 tacoma, it's so good at restoring power the oversized tires spin all the time now, even my g/f who doesn't like to drive noticed the truck has more power, and it's an auto! $6-8 a quart for this stuff can get pricey, but if you want the best it's really not that bad.castrol, valve, mobile, royal, amsoil, lucas, and redline are all good oils, just stay away from pensoil, at chrysler, i use to walk back to service like everyday and i've seen many engines opened up, and everytime i see one that is gunked to hell and it pops, the person was using pensoil according to the mech that does the motor rebuilds/swaps. |

ive ran everything and never noticed any real difference in.. anything. at all.
if maintained, i wouldnt be surprised to see any mr2 go 200K on any oil.

Hi Ben,
Just finished the AmsOil Switch. Smooooooooth, runs so quiet, very little vibration. I now have MT-90 in Trans and AmsOil in engine, truly synthetic. Great choice, I am very happy. Herb |

Castrol Syntec....in every car I have owned since 1997.
In my first MKII I was out of town in subzero weather and wanted to change the oil before the 1800 mile trip home. I bought a Toyota filter and syntec. It was too cold to DIY so I went to a local shop and paid them $25 to do it even though they were using my oil and filter. I got home to a nice 70 degree climate and decided the oil was too thin to run in Texas. I drain it and a quart is missing. The goober that did the change only put 3 quarts in. I freaked out and took the car to the mechanic to pull the pan and see what kind of damage was done to the bearings. They looked freakin new...not a single score marking. Castrol used to run ads in the early 90s where they put syntec in, ran the engine, and drained it before running without any oil. I don't think that would work in real life but I am sure this oil had good enough bonding properties and resistance to heat cook off to protect the engine. I'll never buy another brand of oil. |

Most of the reviews and studies I've seen concerning Castrol have shown pretty negative results.
Mobil 1 synthetic is considerably better, and Amsoil is leagues better. |
