I'm interested in amsoil. Did those studies you look at use the new formulation of mobile 1 or the old formulation? Since mobile 1 lost that lostsuit against Castrol they've put more dino in their "synthetic". It's a GL3 oil whereas the amsoil synthetic is a GL4.

Careful about putting heavy oils in these cars guys. It's probably fine if you're mostly just street driving but if you get athletic with it heavier oils can make it too hard for the oil pump to keep up.

i've also ran many oils any never seen much (if any) difference at all. my brother-in-law who owns a 92 NSX and is a certified honda tech says there's no difference at all. he runs conventional oil in his NSX. and just like what toms said as well as my brother-in-law, as long as you change your oil and maintain your car, any oil is pretty much good.

i use any namebrand oil that's on sale... whether it be penzoil, valvoline, castrol, whatever's cheapest out of those. i never buy the generic crap though. however, it's probably the same shhit.

i'm religious in my oil changing though. every 1500 miles or so, it is changed. my oil never gets dark brown.

EVERY 1500? and it's not black? you must have a N/A motor then.

kragen has 0w30 mobile for 4.04 :o

synthetics are nice because you can run exotic weights. if you have a tight engine, 0 weights might save you some gas and pickup a little free power.

My tranny rebuilder sez use Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30 or I'll void his warranty?
(he's anal retentive)

Feedback question: Do you change oil on mileage schedule or when it gets dark?
It seems our "pressurized" 88/89 cars 'causes some soot blowby at the rings and we see more frequent oil changes. ?

You turbo boys have this same problem?

I hope you're not saying that your transmission builder is telling you to use 5w30 in your transmission......

Don't wait for oil to get dark to change it, do it per schedule. That's one of the worst ideas I've heard regarding oil

Down here it's pretty popular. Not TRD, Nippon Oil Corporation over in Japan. ATS Racing sells/distributes their oils, and has done Dyno runs to show HP differences compared to other "leadings brands." I know Aaron uses it on some of his personal vehicles; maybe all of them? I believe they sponsored the last meet ATS held, had small give aways and stuff.

20w50 is an really heavy oil. You might want to consider going to something lighter if you do anything more with your car than just daily drive it.

Everything being equal, I go for Mobil every time. I think I've got valvoline it it now because Advance had a buy-one-get-one sale a couple of months ago. Usually synthetic blend if I don't anticipate playing with the car (almost never), or full synthetic if there will be track days/autocrosses in the near future (almost always).

Yeah, even full synthetic oil in my car will turn moderately dark well before it "should" be changed. I usually change it at or around 3-4k even if it is one of those 5000+mile oils.
