i just became part of the royal purple club. well that and i was advised to mix in this lucas oil stuff. he said it would make the oil thicker and help out with the itsy bitsy smoking problem i had. it made sense because i changed to a really thin oil when i got the car. so far all smoke free! and another thing, i might just have AC haha.

FWIW, I have run many of the brands mentioned here and had my oil tested by Blackstone Labs <http://www.blackstone-labs.com>. Funny thing is that lab results show the oil that performed the best in my MR2 was Pennzoil Platinum. The one oil many have badmouthed here.
Here is another good source for unbiased oil info. Welcome |

keep in mind toyota designed the car, even turbos, to be ran on pretty low grade mineral oil at 7500 mile service intervals.
mr2s fail due to running low on oil, or just not having it changed at all and getting beaten over the years. people doing these 50 dollar oil changes every 2000 miles are just pouring money into the trash. i use quaker state 5w30 semi synthetic now, because its free changed about every 5000 miles. the quality of oil these days is so drastically better than what the car was designed to be ran on. just make sure to keep the engine full, you'll be alright. its absolutely splitting hairs comparing synthetics, they're all great.

Amsoil in the WRX, and will soon be in the MR2.
I just switched from 5w-30 mobile 1 full synth to 10w-30 Amsoil full synth and gained 2-3MPG in the WRX. |

I just put Valvoline VR1 racing in the turbo for tuning since it was cheap.....ish. I'll probably move to castrol edge gold fully synth after the first few meets and dump the old stuff in my roadcar because that's how I roll.

eneos is a scam. they under rate their oil to produce fake horsepower "gains". eneos 5w30 is thinner than mobile 1 5w20! its close, but its still thinner. its deceptive marketing to under rate the viscosity of your oil and then claim a false gain.
if someone drained out your expensive eneos oil for the cheapest 5w20 mineral oil on the shelf, you'd never notice. |

any reasons why I shouldn't be using Pennzoil? That's what I've always used in my other cars...
