nope. actually the new pennzoil conventional exceeds the latest and greatest, super ridiculous SN/GF5 standard.

the only thing you really need to NEVER use is fram oil filters.

Exactly. Fram is 100% complete junk and should never be used on anything.

buy a filter wrench. fram filters damage engines.

factory filters are cheaper than fram filters too, it just doesnt make a lot of sense to use anything else.

From the 91 BGB:

5S-FE Oil Change capacity
Drain and Refill W/ Oil Filter Change: 4.4 US Qaurts (4.2 liters, 3.7 Imp qts)
Drain and Refill w/o Oil Filter Change: 4.0 US quarts (3.8 liters, 3.3 Imp qts)

So, a full Oil Change (Drain and Refill + Oil Filter) on a 5S-FE is 4.4 US Quarts. For the Filter, you can new go wrong with the OEM Toyota Filters, plus they are a good price.

If you feel you must to go with aftermarket filters, stick with Napa Oil Filters. Napa Oil Filters are made by Wix. The Base Napa filter is a standard Wix filter for less. The Mid grade and top line filters are actually an upgrade over Wix. I'd go with the mid line. It's not too much more than the base filter, but it's a better filter. Carquest is also Wix, but they only have the base and the high end, not the mid line. Napa's Mid line is the most bang for your buck in that line up.

Of course, all that is moot if you go with the OEM Filter.

As for Oil, I've been using Valvoline Conventional Oil for years with no issues.

Here is another good source for unbiased oil info.
Welcome
Likewise and the same for many others. I was beginning to wonder if anyone here ever actually got their oil tested. Need to get the oil in the two tested soon, actually.

I will say though that due to personal bias from trouble with a car I ran their conventional oil in that I won't run anything other than their Platinum blend... but I'm sure that these days with the massive advances in the chemistry used it's probably MUCH better,

Oil again? well for me its all about MOBIL 1 extended performance! I use it for my Q45T ,but now for my 5sfe any oil would do but I usually put regular Mobil 1 or Castrol gtx as long as its up to maintenance.

My Google Map

I use Mobil 1 High mileage right now because that's what my uncle used to use when he had the car. So I'm still using that with the Mobil 1 filter. Glad I switched, because he used Fram filters. Any suggestions for what oil to switch over to? I've read a few posts that say Mobile clean5000 isn't bad.. Just looking for suggestions, thanks.

Hmm... I've been using Fram cause my old man says they are good filters

What's a good filter I can pick up at auto zone? The nearest toyota dealership is an hour away

Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra Platinum with OEM filters. If I can't find either, I'd use Mobil 1, but I'm thrilled with the way the Platinum series of oil has treated my engine during very extreme use.

Bmer89, see if they have Purolator, but the easiest thing would be to order OEM online, or buy in bulk from the dealer. I get 10 at a time for around $50.

I'm gratified I'm not part of the money wasting hype & the 40% (according to this poll) that use synthetic in their MR2. Any brain dead moron knows synthetic is superior, but that same moron knows it ain't needed unless you have special modifications, requirements or applications.

Today's conventional oil is vastly superior to the oil of the late 80s & 90s when our cars were first produced. Just keep it topped up, change the oil frequently & use OEM filters - done.
