I do it myself too. Better off really.

You know it is done correct and exactly how you want it.

No stripped drain plugs, loose filters or someone forgetting to replace your oil cap....

And if any of those things do happen you only have yourself to blame.

Like the other posters had said, "It's cheaper and you get better quality oil and filter to boot."

Also doesn't hurt to get under there yourself and see how things are doing down there once in a while.

i did it myself once when i first got the white mr2 in like 05..

when i got the green mr2 i worked at pepboys and just had the services done by my mechanic during my working hours...

NOW the oil change is only done by my toyota technician here at work, the same guy that put my engine back together, he looks it over and performs the service and sends me on my way...

i put it in the schedule while i am working, provide my own mobil1 5w30 oil, they use the toyota filter AND i get the employee discount... it doesnt get better than that.

i dont get dirty... its done and ready for me by the time im ready to leave and its looked over by the person besides me that knows it the best.

no shame here

My Google Map

I would be broke if I got someone to change my oil for on all my cars. I don't trust anyone with my cars.......I sure as hell know they wouldn't trust me with theirs.

Also everytime a mechanic is near my car they are fascinated that it both runs and that its made out of a hardware store

I can't believe there are actually MR2 owners out there that don't change there own oil ! Kendall GT-1 5-30 synthetic blend, every 3000 miles with napa gold filter... I got OCD or something, extremely meticulous... then again I do work at a repair/service shop and have seen the resulting horrors from poor maintenance!!!

Whats punishment if he leaves the drain plug loose? Lol Being as I don't have anyone I can trust I do mine. I can just do it at work now on my lift too so I don't even really get dirty and don't have to worry about disposing of it. Lol win win

Wow. I learned how to change oil when I was 14. Now I do all the maintenance on my 240. It's not a hard thing to do. Anyone who doesn't know should really learn.

For real?

All you do is remove the drain plug from the oil pan and let the oil drain out. Put the drain plug back on. Then remove the filter with a special tool, or be a bad ass and do it by hand. Then put a little bit of oil in and on top of the new filter, then screw it back on handtight only, so as to not break the rubber gasket it has. Put in 4.5 qts of oil through the valve cover on the top. Then just make sure there's no oil dripping or leaking at eather the filter or drain plug. Make sure the plug is as tight as it can possibly go. Done. If you see any smoke after you do it. Immediately stop and look for leaks at eather the filter or plug. I've been doing oil changes on my own car, and all of my dad's cars at his dealer for a year now, and I haven't messed up a single time. Then a few days later you should check the dip stick to make sure you haven't lost any oil.

the quality of the filter. it just depends on what you do with your ride, if you race it, go about 120+mph on the interstate, or any kind of drifting, the toyota filters would not be to happy about the hotter oil going through it, the K&N makes sure that it performs the best even at hotter temperatures. and so on and so forth, so we just like the added reassurance of the performance filter.

toyotas filters are top quality and can be ranked agaisnt k&n and other of the best. i have learned my lesson about letting others do my mr2 work. if you want it done right, do it yourself, and oil changes are about the easiest maintenance to do.

not arguing that they are not awesome, but it is kinda all opinion to some degree.

also stating a reason for paying different prices.
