Question T Top Whispers?

93 Turbo Black 50k Orig miles. New to the site. Looks like there's a lot of good info on this site. Got a question. At highway speeds, my T-Tops whisper loudly in the area where the side window meets the front of the T-Top - both sides. Clearly an air leak. It's really annoying on long drives. Anybody know the fix?

Welcome to the forum!

The first step is to adjust the fit of the T-top roof panels relative to the body of the car. The way you do that is by replacing the T-top rod guides - the black nylon bushings at each corner of the roof - with some eccentric (offset) versions. These are a genuine Toyota part that we (Lithia Toyota of Springfield, OR) keep in stock. Our phone number is in my signature. Your cost through us is about $1.92 each, and you'll want four, one for each corner. The guides have a square peg that fits into a square hole in the body, so they can be clocked in four different positions. You just pluck the stock ones out with a screwdriver and then pop the new ones in with the rod hole facing outward and down.

If the guides don't fix the noise, try buttering up the seals with some Shin-Etsu grease from Honda, part number 08798-9013. You may just want to do that on principle anyway. If that doesn't fix it, look into adjusting the door glass. You may eventually have to replace the weatherstrips around the roof, but try the cheap fixes first.
