Need Help Tranny issue PLEASE READ

ok so got this car a while back and everything seemed ok with it, well recently the tranny decided to act up.

heres some info on the car...

91 turbo mr2
gen3 3sgte with LSD tranny
it had a B&M style short shifter with the drop plate when we got it, it has since been replaced with a TRD shifter.
some other goodies that have nothing to do with the problem....

ok so here is the problem...

car will not shift into 3rd,4th, or reverse when car is sitting still either running or not. however if your driving down the road it will shift through the gears just fine, other than reverse cause obviously you cant throw it in reverse while driving down the road....

now we had a friend look at it, and when he removed the shifter cables from the tranny you could shift it into reverse and 4th fine. but stil had a problem with 3rd.

ok so with the shifter cables hooked up sitting still engine off, if you wiggle the shifter back and forth lightly while trying to put it in 3rd, it will fall right in.

ok well thats the rundown of the problem.... now here are the things we have tried....

tried new shifter cables thinking maybe the old ones were stretched or something, swapped out the shifter and removed the drop plate. neither helped nor made the problem worse. gonna check the fluid level in it tomorrow, but thats where i am with it right now...

if anyone has any suggestions or questions please pm me, or feel free to text/call me. i need to get this fixed as its my girls DD car, but she only got to drive it for about 2weeks...

heres my # 863-812-5167 ~Troy

check the fluid on the clutch, it right next to your master brake cylinder. Was the clutch resently done? its maybe time for a new clutch. A worn out clutch will do that some times.

oh..how far in do you have to step on the clutch so it will engage? All the way to the floor or just half way?
and are you sure it a gen3 tranny? it might be a gen3 engine but with a gen2 tranny.

clutch fluid is fine, however the previous owner kinda rigged the clutch pedal. instead of having the pin holding the actuating rod from the master cyl. he had a bolt and nut that was really tight and didnt allow the pedal to "float" as it traveled back and forth. which actually caused the bracket to break off the rod. so we got a new master cyl. to replace it with.

the clutch engaged roughly 3/4 of the way down. but not so far down that it wasnt fully engaging.

however when we first got the car i was goofing off and tried launching the car from a dead stop, and the clutch slipped through most of 1st gear. but under normal driving conditions is doesnt slip, nor if you get on it while already rolling in any gear. only while trying to launch it. but it has 18x9.5 rear wheels with 275/45 tires so i just assumed that was the cause. lol
